It comes as no surprise to see web-based languages at the top of most of the categories.

actually it suprised me, i thought programmers are more wanted because there are free website templates all over the web, and thought java is more popular than javascript (as someone included similar survey above)

It comes as no surprise because most survey respondents described themselves as full stack web developers.

This survey is self selecting from people who have stackoverflow accounts and who answered the survey. It is in no way reflective of the wider world.
It's really about the market you're targeting. learning assembly won't help in web dev, and css won't help in system administration. Also different countries have different preferences (let alone area preferences as well), Japan seems to have lots of Ruby developers openings for example.
Final word, most employers won't care much what languages you know as entry level as long as you know the concepts and have done some mock projects around to prove your knowledge. I had Ruby skills when I got my part-time job, but they don't even use Linux systems, so they tested my concepts and gave me couple weeks to move my skills to C#, and now doing another move towards javascript.
Have a cool signature? hit me up and I might use it.

Do you think that many self-respecting, sizeable companies will use free web templates?
There is still a demand for web programmers
