I wouldn't mine ETH or BTC.
I would mine XMR or some other "smaller" coin.

Personally I wouldn't do. Cryptocurrency is like the wind, you never know which way it's going to go.

haha was looking into either that or learning to day trade. But I suck at reading charts.
Unless you have a large capital and have secured long term space to house your mining equipment with cheap electricity it's not that worth it.
What's your capital like for the investment?

With 3k I would not suggest building your own mining rig.
depends on what kind of return you are looking for. Also, the cost of electricity in your state may vary.
mine is 0.08 kwh so I will probably only make $1.5 a day with my 1070 ti
Did you figure something out, OP?
I wouldn't bother with such a small investment.

Fortunately, you don't have to spend very much if you just want to try mining out.  Buy an Antminer S9 for $40 and run it long enough to see if you can stand the noise.

Thanks guys yeah guess it's just not worth it.
Guess I'll just buy more BTC and just hold it instead of mining.
At first I thought I could make $10-20 a day but nvr it's way lower.
