Good luck : http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/
You don't, that would defeat the purpose of a password. Your option is pretty much reformatting the PC. Sorry.

Wouldn't this require access to an OS...?

Than I stand corrected; but I was mainly going off of the fact he has windows; and it has a password.
Just take the hard drive out and put it into another computer. You will be able to access all the files that way.
In my opinion, it would be more respectful to your deceased grandmother; if you didn't try to break into her personal (>.>) computer. If she legit gave it to you that is one thing, but if not that is pretty much the same thing as grave robbing.
What would be on an elderly (*cough* maybe not *cough) woman's computer that you want to access anyway?

He just wants to feel like a badass if anything. :P

I stated the option of her giving it to him... If she didn't, regardless of his motives, it is still screwed up to dig through a dead woman's property.
hmm heres a few links to recover passwords or just if you want to hack a computer

not free (but looks quite good): http://www.passwordresetter.com/?hop=db6aedf702
free (but never used it): http://www.fiberdownload.com/Download/20686/Kon-Boot
free (but not as legit): http://www.loginrecovery.com/
for all of these you will need a cd, a computer (locked one), a computer(not locked that can burn cd's as well.)

hope i helped :D

sorry to hear about your grandmother bro :( shes in heaven now, i hope you get the access your family needs!
Try starting the computer in safe mode(tap F8 as it turns on) then login to the administrator account. If it's your grandma's computer then I doubt she'll have a password for it. Then try changing the password to her account off of it.
You could simply use Kon-Boot I have had this work on 32bit but, no luck on 64bit.
