What is the best way to learn hacking ? Do you have to learn programming to do so?

no its not but if you want to go beyond the 'skid' lvl then yes. i reccomend you go in this orde

1.)vb.net
2.)c#
2.)python (either c# or py are good second langs, choose one then lrn the other nxt
4.)delphi or c++ (maybe both?!)
5.) asm
currently im on vb.net 😖
also im not the best so other pples input might be better than mine, so far i have only coded a mc acc stealer with a smtp script i found online. so i only had to make a fake gui lol took me 2 mins, thats the only 'hacking' i have done, but you can say i do know more than your avg skid 🎉

o ye networking too :D hope ive helped
Please way is to use the search function here. have many good articles
Depending on what kind of hacking you want to learn; it is always best to know how something works.

For example, say you want to hack websites - you would need to understand how the vulnerability (like SQLi) works, this is speed the "hacking process" up a lot.

Sure there some scenarios where you don't need to know networking to hack something, but for the most part you need to know networking. Without network understanding, you are like a bank robber who does not know the roads to escape on.

It is pitiful to see 1337 hackers that cant port forward, or diagnose connection problems, or understand a live sniffer, or bypass ACLs, or keep a low network profile, or use nmap, etc, etc, etc.

What he said ^^ along with INFORMATION GATHERING, INFORMATION GATHERING, INFORMATION GATHERING!

Perl, Ruby, and Bash scripting in a Linux environment are vital. I would NOT START WITH NMAP. NMAP is cheating and you won't learn anything, especially how noisy it is on a network. Netcat is a great tool to learn networking and hacking in a "hands-on" way. You'll use it a lot as you become more experienced, then you can move on to NMAP once you know what you're doing :)
-"Perl, Ruby, and Bash scripting are vital. " < Why are they VITAL ? You don't even need to know those scripting langs to throw something together.

-"NMAP is cheating and you won't learn anything" < So it's cheating to scan open ports and processes that might be running to aid you in your search for the correct method of exploiting ? Guess you have to be a magician instead.

-"then you can move on to NMAP once you know what you're doing :) " < Just wow.

Not sure if I should laugh or cry. How can you expect people to learn anything with answers like this, totally uneducated and wrong answer.

I can tell you're a script kiddie -_- ..

Yes, NMAP is awesome, but it is cheating for beginners and skips the learning process "which is important". Also, NMAP is noisy on a network and most people on here don't know how to use it effectively besides basic commands. And those scripting languages are "VITAL", but that's over your head. I don't know what you "throw together", but it's definitely something I wouldn't use..
