Hi, I'm stuck in a rut with programming. I "know" Java and Python, but I don't know them. I can't speak them, I'm not a master. I know pretty much all of the basics and I'm familiar with most of the concepts in both languages. If I'm not, it'll take me 10 minutes with my friend, Google, to become familiar with it. I need a project to work on. People say to "make what you need", but I don't "need" anything. I use the computer for schoolwork and I don't really need anything for that. I want to make something that will be useful, I want to code something that actually has a purpose other than practice. I'm tired of all those simple projects that I write and then forget, simply because I don't need them for anything. Most people are software developers or have websites, or something. They code applications that are going to be used and needed. And thus my question: what would you recommend? I was thinking of contributing to open source, but what? I'm limited by my very short list of known

Since you're interested in python, I can hook you up with a friend of mine, who is working on a library for irc bots. Handling messages, connections, etc. PM me if you'd like.
