system 32 damaged

My friends computer is saying something like system 32 is damaged. I tried to see if there was anyway to start it up around that and it is not responsive. Is there anything I can help him do to fix it?

Open an elevated command prompt (with Admin Rights) and enter the following command :

Code
sfc /scannow

Tell us what it returns.

Safe mode was not working at all :/

I will try this thank you very much.

If system 32 is damaged, I suggested she might have to perform an in-place upgrade with the Windows operating system.

To do this you will need to have a blank DVD with at least 5 GB or USB with at least 5 GB blank too.

This is Windows 7, Alan and ISO from here:

Check whether or not the addition of Windows 7 is 32 or 64-bit and download the appropriate language for the computer.

Burn the ISO to a blank DVD with at least 5 GB. For our USB drive with at least 5 GB by using the tutorial I have below, follow its instructions to have his computer operating again.

Thank you very much I will get back to you.

We actually have no idea. They said they have no downloaded anything suspicious and just use it to browse the web.

That was actually my guess as well. The first thing I asked him was if he downloaded anything.

"Delete system32."
"K COOL ILL TRY THAT THANKS"

People these day ...

I'm sure he tried to download movies, games or music and downloaded an infected file and he infected himself.
BMX, if you can get the computer up and running, Safe Mode or not, I can log in via Teamviewer and assist your friend remotely. So what happens when you try to boot the computer ?

I am currently not at the friends house, but I will be later. I literally tried running it anyway I could and it just wouldn't do it for me. I is a really nice laptop too, so I hope I can fix it for him.

I am not sure if I have you on skype. I will pm my username to you now.

Windows Os will not give error stating that the System32 folder is corrupted Windows OS file protection feature does not watch the System32 folder it protects the Windows Os system files within System32 folder and not all of the files within System32 folder is not needed for booting the Windows OS this mean that the Windows OS will not report that the System32 folder is corrupted it will only report the Windows OS critical boot files if they are missing or corrupted. Are you sure the error message is not stating that the System registry hive is corrupted if your asking for help you should have wright down the output of the Windows OS error you should all so add the Windows OS version you want as to help fixes.
I don't know how the virus or your fiend was able to by pass the Windows OS file protection feature but i can tell you its not easy to delete Windows Os protected system files and stop Windows Os file protection from replacing the deleted Windows Os system files if these important files was deleted there is a chance Windows Os can be make bootable by replacing the deleted or corrupted Windows Os boot files. Your first choice for Windows 8 or 8.1 is to boot your computer into System Recovery Options menu using the Windows Os installation Dvd and use the "Refresh your PC" option this will not delete any personal files or setting but it will uninstall all user installed programs.
For Windows XP you can also do Repair Install using the Windows Xp installation CD visit the website link to find out how to repair install Windows XP.

How to Do a Windows XP "Repair Install
http://www.wikihow.com/Do-a-Windows-XP-%...Install%22

For Windows Vista and 7 you can try replace missing or corrupted Windows Os system files by using the System File Checker command within Command Prompt which you can find it in the System Recovery Options menu you can also use the System File Checker command before using the "Refresh your PC" option this way if the Windows Os is fixebale by the System File Checker command then your friend will save him self of reinstalling the uninstall programs which will happen if you use "Refresh your PC" option for Windows 8 or 8.1 OSs.
Boot your computer into System Recovery Options open the Command Prompt and type below command press enter key.

bcdedit | find "osdevice"

The output of the above command will help us to found the drive letter that is assign to the Windows Os installed partition you will see output for example like this osdevice partition=C: from this output we want the drive letter which is C: in my output example but your bcdedit command output will be different for the drive letter. You going to use the Windows OS partition drive letter with System File Checker (sfc.exe) command.
Type below command to replace any missing or corrupted Windows Os system files.

Sfc /Scannow /Offbootdir=c:\ /Offwindir=c:\windows

Change all c:\ drive letter from above command with the drive letter that has assign to Windows OS partition.
You also can use System Restore option within System Recovery Options menu but this option may not work because System Restore program could be damage because of the corrupted Windows Os system files.
Your last option is to backup the user files and reinstall the Windows Os there is no way to do a upgrade of the Windows Os if you cannot boot the Windows Os upgrades can only be than within already working installed Windows Os.
