Can you go to jail for ratting someone?

(Aug 31, 2014 08:36 PM)stanleyp1011 Wrote:  Hey i just got into ratting a while ago and i was wondering if i could go to jail for trolling my friends and maybe taking a few game accounts from strangers. But nothing related to paypal , credit cards, etc?

What are the chances for me to get caught?

You won't get caught. Unless you're like dumb enough to fucking say you did it or send money to your paypal via their pc etc. lol

then probably not but technically you could if someone got really upset with you lol.
OP you should check out this http://www.cybercrimelaw.net/Cybercrimelaws.html

Depending on which country your doing it in look up the laws of that country or better find a country with no law :D

If your going to use a VPN then probably best to use one with no logs, or infect someone elses pc and setup and series of proxys which have a terminate button :D
Look, its highly illegal to use a RAT. The punishment really relies of some things:
How much people do you have infected?
Is it someone in special(a well known person)
What was the purpose of it?

Those things really matter there are some more factors but I think those are the most common ones.

And Yes you can go to jail for it. Here in The Netherlands the highest jail time for it will be 3 years, I think if you live in the USA the punishment will be much higher!
So it really depends one what you are doing with it. If you are really scared for getting caught, just lower the chances by using a good VPN :)
If you have to ask, I suggest you don't do it.

If you are afraid of the consequences, do not do the actions.

You said it best. Don't RAT if your afraid of the consequences behind doing it.
"RATTING" is not in itself illegal.

Using the information you get after you RAT someone is. If you steal money from, steal information from, or use anything you find against them or for profit or gain. Then you can get in a lot of trouble. The act of infecting someone in and of itself is not illegal though.

Team Viewer does just about anything a RAT can do. The only difference is you have to have their permission to do what you want/need to do through Team Viewer. RATs are more tools used to help people and companies maintain their services and machines. Putty is a program that you use with servers, as well as many other things like Putty, these are technically all RATs but they are legal and we call them programs and software rather then an underground or black hat term that was coined over the ages.

Anyway, hope this helps you understand more about RATs. Also, they are Remote Administration Tools or at least that is what "RAT" stands for. There are MANY MANY forms of RATs and there are many illegal as well as legal uses for them. So to RAT someone is not illegal, but using what you find/get from them can be.

Have an awesome day! 🤝

The use of a computer to take or alter data, or to gain unlawful use of computers or services

Oh yea, you are right. I forgot about this. I think it was back in 2009 the Laws Changed in the US.

Sorry for the false info. Thanks for correcting me. 🤝
Its highly illegal to go into some ones computer without their knowledge. so it might likely put you in jail.
