[Red Lions] Coding Help Desk

Good luck with the help desk Mesh. It's awesome that you and the other coders of the group are doing this.

I have a thread with 2000 replies help desk in the Beginner Hacking section. I stopped LQ threads for a long time, but often repeated myself. That's what help desks are good for.
Glad to see Specialists open another help desk. Best of luck with it guys, I know you'll do well. 👍

In your opinion, what's the best general use programming language?

Depends what you want to do. If you want to design websites, you obviously don't want to use Python.

That's windows specific though.

A better way to do it would be getchar() although I'm guessing Vegas is programming on Windows so it doesn't matter much anyway. Just sayin' yo.

You should require them to help people.

Really? Like.. really? We all know different languages. When someone asks a question, do you expect everyone to answer it, even though they have no clue about the language? I know web developing languages and Java. Don't expect me to answer other language questions, because I don't know them.

We don't always know the answer or language.
(Oct 4, 2014 06:06 AM)Water Aura Wrote:  Do you really want me to show pictures showing the people who applied to correlate their languages to the questions being asked?

That isn't needed. As said, we don't always know the answer.
(Oct 4, 2014 06:10 AM)Water Aura Wrote:  🤦‍♂ So you're saying THAT out of the people you recruited none of them can answer simple questions like "What language should I choose?" to output their opinions.

Whatever.

EDIT: EVEN IF IT WERE ALREADY ANSWERED YOU COULD ALSO OUTPUT YOUR OPINIONS.

That question was answered THREE times. Where are you getting at? Do you expect everyone to answer? Lol
(Oct 4, 2014 06:36 AM)Water Aura Wrote:  😅 I'm stating that as an example...not necessarily you to answer it.

So you complain about us not answering the questions. Your example had three answers to it.
Please quit complaining. We are doing this to help people. We don't want to cause drama or anything like that.

First of, I have a degree in Computer Science (even though I only know basic programming and I haven't code in 5 years + so I have forgotten everything)

My question is whether I can learn Android programming from scratch without any knowledge of other programming languages (Android is based on JAVA afaik?) And If so, would you point me in some direction from where to learn, what to learn etc?

Thanks a lot and hope to hear from you :)

Thanks,

D

No you can't just jump into "Android Programming" because you still need to program and how are you gonna write an application, if you have no idea how the language you're using to write the application work?

You can use any language you desire, but Java or C++ is probably the best choice.
