My reply comes from zero knowledge about malware removal, take it with a grain of salt.
Pickup Windows Essentials (Sixth Edition best)
Learn Networking on a good level - OSI model, monitoring networking, using wireshark etc
download documentation on popular malware and see it's breakdown, then learn how malware operate - how does things like registry, services, drivers, kernel, runtime, ::DATA stream, processes, memory, storage types etc etc etc all come together and contribute in malicious development. Learning Assembly/C is a huge bonus.
