I'm confused by this.
Yeah the guy was driving like a complete dick, but how was that life threatening?
The car literally turned and slowed down a bit.
I mean I am happy that technology is advancing like it is but still.

What the truck did was beer into the lane without any signal whatsoever. A typical driver wouldn't expect this and - boom - the truck hits the front of the guys car. If you rewatch the video, and imagine the front of the car being hit (even that lightly), he would have either fallen into that ditch or collided head first into the metal divider.
The AI sensed an incoming collision and made the appropriate adjustments to avoid it. Like I said, rewatch the vid and envision what would happen if the car just kept going straight.
Also, the AI doesn't panic like humans do: a human in this situation might panic or freak out and turn the steering wheel too fast or brake or push the gas pedal - humans are unpredictable for sure. The AI just did some math and then forgot about it the second it avoided the collision, awaiting to prevent the next one.

Fair enough. This is why I refuse to get my license, people are fucking idiots and I don't feel like dealing with it.

That's not my problem. If someone makes $15 an hour, and they're OK with it, then they shouldn't bitch about not being able to afford a 2017 all-electric car.
Anyone can turn their life around if they want to. I'm a prime example of that. The only problem is people's mentality. They are a bitch (in the most literal way) of their own mind, instead of it being vice versa.

It's not about the car being fancy, it's about it being game changing in this world, if we're really going be making the dramatic switch to green energy then big things are going to need to happen.
Okay so... I don't understand your argument? I agree with what you just said but what are these "big things" that need to happen? Tesla and many (if not all) major auto-industry companies have been researching, studying and doing trials for the past 10+ years concerning AI and it's influence in the future of transportation. There are buses in a small town in Virginia that have no drivers - all is controlled through deep learning algorithms concerning the city's layout, how and when streets/sidewalk crossings are busy, and constantly learning about how to avoid problems that may arise.
There's a Silicon Valley principle shared amongst groups, and even Elon Musk is a big supporter of this overall idea: "Something has to be 10 times better than the original for it to have the capability to fully replace the said original". I think that greatly pertains to this new era of automobiles. Once people will see that it is 10 times safer to drive from one place to another , or 10x quicker, or 10x more cost-efficient, people WILL switch. The social stigma that might be there WILL be deterred and people will go with the flow of technology, as it has always been, is now, and always will be.

Yes, definitely. I can't wait for the possibility to go over business documents or doing ANYTHING ELSE really, while driving. Think of what people can do with the average 40 minute-1 hour commute instead of focusing on the road. They can use their laptops, go over what they are going to do that day, students can study for an upcoming exam on their way to school. Sure, it sounds irrelevant to some people. "What could I possibly do productively in a car?" I guess that shows more of what kind of person whoever says that is, rather than creating a topic of interest for people to actually ponder that question. A person who is motivated and knows what their short term goals and long term visions are will NEVER question what to do with their time, no matter what the situation is or where the person is residing.

Very true. No matter what example I use, whether it be something as simple as a grocery shop, to something as complex as flight, these time savers allow people to have an increase of time to think and develop in ways that weren't possible before. When a man was destined to have to hunt for food every single day, or deal with starvation, he didn't have time to ponder about anything else. His sole priority was to get food. Once farming, industrial marketplaces/restaurants, and other food caveats came into play, man no longer had to worry about missing a meal. Now all of that time that would be spent thinking about killing the next buffalo can be dedicated to ANYTHING else.
The key part of that last sentence, though, is the word "anything". That is what separates one man from another. One man's "anything" can bring him wealth, health, and happiness. Another man's "anything" can bring him despair, hatred, and depression.
I hope everyone who just read what I wrote thinks about what their subjective "anything" filler is, and if it is benefiting you - or doing the opposite.

Read what I said when someone else said what you just said in the thread.
And yes, I am Dr. Seuss.
