The soundtrack is everything in anime like Clannad and Kanon, while in something like Btooom! I could care less what music they play.

For animes like Clannad, the soundtrack turned it from an awesome anime to practically a masterpiece, imo.

I'm not too bothered by series lacking a good soundtrack. But, when it does it just makes it all the better.

This sums it up perfectly for me. On the flip side though, when there are certain scenes (for instance romance or action) and the soundtrack doesn't fit the scene it can make things worse.

I can't remember any specific anime right now but I have watched a couple where I thought to myself "Why did they choose this music? It's ruining the mood."

Like others have mentioned, soundtrack selection can positively influence an anime when done properly.

Best soundtrack was in Kanon 2006 in my opinion, after that I would have to say Fate/Zero. Clannad comes in fourth for me right behind Kimi Ni Todoke.

Well, I like watching anime with good soundtracks, but if they are bad, I really don't care. I find plot much important than the soundtrack.
