Hacking member's profiles sounds really fun! You could have a way of members to code their own profiles in order to defend them, and if they're hacked, the hacker can post a comment on their 'hacked page', or something like this.

Seems a bit crazy, but something along those lines would be cool.

Some sort of a shooting game, text-based on the forum could be cool too, pretty simple to make that kind of thing.

I don't like the gambling ideas, I think combining 2 and 4 would be the best to do since it has to do with hacking & technology in general and also encourages that kind of activity more on the forum instead of all this points based stuff

Good ideas, but the points system you suggested for the gambling game is not that good IMO, I have seen many forums with this features and I think it useless.
It will be great if you can buy awards that meant for the system like new awards, but then the value of the awards will drop IMO.

I know fuck all about hacking but feel that a hacker oriented addition would be a neat addition as far as drawing external interest. The crypto market exchange also sounds cool. The points gambling thing is usually pointless on other forums I've found, and I agree with the pet battle being childish.

@Alanox great post and good links but things I already know. What I haven't done is actually implement gamification onto HF in many years. We've mainly focused on Marketplace activity but I think it's time we alter the landscape here and move focus toward some gaming activity. I have other ideas too and I may work incorporate a few of them.

Right now the project list is moving forward very well. We have at least 2-3 more major items on the list and we can begin something really fresh here. The server move coming soon will give me more resources and options to power-up the site a bit and not care as much about how MySQL is going to choke.

Would you find HF more enjoyable if some forum game or interaction was involved?

I've had ideas to add various games/activities to HF which I would hope inspire members to be more involved and active.

Example concepts:

1. Crypto Market Exchange - Fake exchange for top portfolio each month with a winner who gets an award.

2. Monster Game - Anyone remember this?   https://hackforums.net/battle.php  It was a teaser page when Pokemon Go was huge for about 10 minutes. I still think having some type of monster pet game on-site could be enjoyable.  Maybe a bit too childish  though, I can't be sure.

3. Gambling - Obviously not for real money but I could add some point system here which would allow additional choices for point-based games.  And actually I used to do this on HF about 8 years ago when we did run a points system.

4. Fake Hacking - I could write up pages and scripts and making hacking member profiles or other things part of a game/challenge on HF or even across the web.  


Does any of this sound of interest to members?  Now that we're moving forward pretty quickly through projects I'd like to get more feedback on some of these concepts.

Yea i like the idea with a fake Crypto market, add a leaderboard and a nice weekly or monthly award for being top trader.

There should obviously be a way to obtain the fake coins or whatever to invest, posts, threads etc could give a fixed abount of mBTC(Fake btc ofc) ( or maybe restart the omnicoin project for this purpose? 🤫 😅 )
