Insure Your iDevice From Being Lost/Stolen!

Our iDevices aren't cheap and, most of the time, mean A LOT to us. That's why it is important to protect them in case they are lost or stolen. All the time I hear of people asking me how to find their iDevice and when asked if they have any specific software on it to do that, they say no. It's REALLY hard to locate them after they are stolen/lost if they don't already have protection on it. It doesn't take too long at all and (I personally think) some of these programs are worth it!

There are many programs out there that will locate your lost/stolen iPhone/iPod/iPad.
Most of them cost, but there are some free ones out there that would be useful.

Find My iPhone [Free for iPhone4 Running 4.2 And Above]
This app is relatively simple for finding your lost iDevice.
It allows you to:
Locate your device on a map
Display a message showing your contact information if you lost it
Set a passcode remotely
Wipe your device

all by logging into your account at www.me.com.
It is now free for iPhone4 users on 4.2 and above (Lucky me! :D)
But for everyone else, you have to have a paid subscription to Apple's MobileMe service, which is $99 a year.

iTracker [Free With Crack]
iTracker activates whenever your SIM card is replaced.
When activated it:
Sends your numbers (you can set up to 3) a SMS message saying whatever you like
Has an option to include a GPS location of where your iPhone is.
Sends the thief's phone number
Set intervals when to send your numbers GPS SMS messages.

This app is in Cydia and can be free if you install this source: Http://cydia.xsellize.com/

iHound
Allows you to do many things from your computer:
Track your iDevice (has to be connected to wifi if it's an iPod/iPad)
Reports to you whenever it makes a significant location change
Sound the alarm
Send SOS SMS messages
Send custom push notifications.

If you buy it from the app store (or get it for free with Intallous, by adding the source: Http://cydia.hackulo.us/) you get 3 months for free.
You can pay through the site using Paypal and get it for $9.99 a year.

iLocalis
Also works by using a computer allowing you to:
Track your iDevice (assuming it has an active connection)
Share your location with your friends
Remote control your iDevice
Backup
Wipe
Remote record
Lock iLocalis from uninstalling

Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNKv3WWapzg to see more features.
You can install it with Cydia and get a 10 day free trail.
Afterwards, you have to pay 5 Euros, which is about $7, for a year.

I know there is more, but I listed the ones that i thought/found that were the best IMO.
If you know of better ones, go ahead and list them here.
I hope this helps out some people!
Nice guide. Good for those who often worry too much about their phone and need insurance that it won't get stolen or taken away. But what if that person puts it into DFU mode or turns it off? Will it still work?

That part concerns me too. If it's off it won't work, but some of these might track the last known position it is at. And whenever someone turns it back on, you'll see it on the map of whatever service you are using (not itracker though)
And whenever someone puts it in DFU mode and restores it, that's the end of the line. But you should get the last position it is at when it gets wiped. Possibly being the theif's house!
And it's always a good thing to have your UDID, and Serial Number on record to prove it's your device if you come across the guy that has yours.
