Beginner Hacking - Ultimate Starter Guide - NoBS - [Hacking Theory pt. 1]

Beginner Hacking is the section of the forum where you can ask questions and comprehend the concepts of Hacking and/or Cracking more effectively. In this informative thread I hope to answer all of your questions, equip you with a substantial amount of knowledge, and reverse the way the populous views hacking.

To understand hacking, you must understand it's definition. Personally, I define it as using something for a purpose other then what it was intended to do. Hacking is a subculture, and it's quite easy to follow.

I'm told RATs, Keyloggers, and DDoSes aren't real hacking.

I would strongly agree with this statement. You're not entirely focused on getting results when you begin hacking. When you first start out, your primary goal is to learn. I think nowadays, people just call you a "noob" for using these tools without giving you an alternative. This in itself is a bad idea when someone needs some guidance.

A hacker generally has many tools at his disposal. These tools include a clever mind, an advanced understanding of computer systems, and his ability to manipulate the machine.

Clever Mind - God given.
Advanced Understanding of Computer Systems - Learned through self research and experience.
Ability to Manipulate a Machine - Programming.

To practice strategy and exercise your mind, I recommend a game you like, for me, my game is Chess. Understanding computer systems, this is really up to you, you can explore how your current operating system works. Personally, I use a slightly complex Linux system which allows me to take a good look at how a system works. And programming, I chose to do C++ for these reasons.
  • Cross platform

  • Native code, not managed code

  • Can go quite low level (memory handling) and high level

Now programming will most likely tie in with your learning of systems when you get to networking and file manipulation. A form of Assembly is also great for those low level operations other languages can't achieve.

Misc Stuff [Mentors, Hak this pleez]
Mentors - No, don't ask for any, everyone that knows more than you is effectively a mentor. Self research is imperative in hacking, you MUST learn how to follow your curiosities and continuously research for yourself.

Hacker "Ranks"

Hacker ranks are not really assigned or what you would call "static". They're more of an on the fly respect you give someone. Someone that obviously knows more than you, it's good respect and generally good learning to shut your mouth (unless you have a question), and listen about what they speak about this. This for me has been the best form of learning I have experienced. It's also will become a responsibility of yours to not express "how much you know" in a manner that looks like a desperate grab for respect and glory. "What you know" will come out when you talk to others about a concept you find interesting. Don't be afraid to take chances in your learning as well, and try to remain respectful and quiet. It's must better when you know a lot about a person and you're given the choice whether you want to share about yourself.

Now, time for a few off-site useful links.

Computer Architecture
C Language and Networking, but good for networking concepts
Shellcode
C++ tutorial
Brilliant programming tutorials
What is hacking?
Exploit DB

If anyone has any questions, would like me to add anything, or would like me to reformat the text, post here. I try my best to respond. I'll most likely up date it later, plan on posting some real hacking techniques maybe.

tl;dr: Chances are if you couldn't read this entire thing, you're not going to be hacking anytime soon. It involves A LOT of reading :D.
This is very nice! Short, but plentiful sum up of what it takes to be become a "hacker". High Quality thread!

Thanks, I'm thinking I'm going to add some tutorials to it, baby steps in hacking like Remote and Local exploitation etc. I will see.

Thinking this should've gotten more replies. although I did post it quite late.
Pretty nice guide.
Not very useful to me, but it's well written.
This is awesome, great job here two thumbs up!
A little tip, change your title haha, it says Nobs not noobs 🙂
Knowledge is power, and power corrupts. So study hard and be evil.

It says "NoBS", as in "No Bullshit".

Aha, people may understand it wrong, maybe you should separate them. I don't know if you know but in a few countries like the UK "nobs" is often referred to as "penis" ;)

Thanks a lot for this. Cant wait to dive in
Thanks for this. I'm trying to learn everything I can.

Looking forward to the updates, subscribing to thread.
This helped me alot thank you :)... Keep up the good work man.
No problem guys, if anyone wants to volunteer to write some stuff, I'll gladly add you to the credits.
Thanks quite a useful guide for a beginner like me .
