Basics of Logging into a Router
Overview:
This is a guide on how to get into your router and to simple task like port forwarding / monitoring the access
Background:
When I first starting learning how to “hack” I read multiple articles on the learning how to learn how to hack. I decided to set up some goals, the first being to get into my own router, and from there getting into the other computers that are local
Stuff you need to know/have:
A computer connected to the router you want to get into, since this if for my system I was already connected, if you want to just connect to a network here is a rather good tutorial on it here https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1410937
Need to have your the default gateway IP address

For linux users like myself this can be found under the connection information. For windows user you can find it by typing in ipconfig in command prompt and getting the default gateway
Logging In:
Now open up your web browser and type in this default gateway, lets say 1.0.1.0 which will bring you to a screen like
Spoiler (Click to View)
Well it so happen when I received this the pop up that says, “the site says:” told me the exact model of the router I have.
Since I did not want to necessarily download a program to brute force this, I google'd the user manual for my router and just started reading it and sure enough it told me the default username and password that whoever is the owner forgot to change.
Once logging in it took me to a screen that allows me to control various features of the LAN. One option I was really looking forward too was the logs that it keeps of where everyone has gone and the list of each IP being used within the network. (I could also block porn sites just to piss people off and know that they would never say anything to try to get them back :) )
Now on to the port forwarding / triggering:
This is not going to explain why one would want to port forward, but if one ever feels the desire too here is how.
Go to the port forwarding tap, from there click the “Add custom service”
Then add the port you are trying to forward too I.e 1345 starting and 1345 ending, then add the IP address and the protocol, I would suggest keeping the default TCP/UDP unless you know what you are doing
Monitoring:
After exploering some more I found one could essentially control the Internet access of anything connected to the router (which is the way it should be) But I was especially excited when I found out which devices were connected and the local IP with them. Now that you know which device has which IP, one can use the log to find where each device has gone in a certain amount of time, and can block services accordingly.
Conclusion:
Hopefully as my first guide / tuturial I did not mess anything up too much, if I missed anything / to vague / stated something false please let me know so I can correct it! I am not an expert in this area just trying to show others how to connect to a router with simple resources.
Thanks for reading!
