It would be a one time thing.

When the news come out, it notifies all users, when you click it, it goes away. After a certain amount of days without being clicked, it goes off the page automatically.

I completely agree with this. I feel that the HF news should be noticed a bit more, and this would definitely help.
I've recently started reading it and it's pretty enjoyable to read, and I'm sure others will enjoy it too.
For those who don't want it, maybe have an option where it can be enabled/disabled, even though it is only once a week.

The thing with the userscript, is not every member will download it, not everyone will know about it, which is why I'd like Omni to make a plugin/add-on for it.

But if he doesn't make this plugin for myBB, then what else will there be?

Spafic, you can make a plugin based on this idea.
If a thread is posted there the notification automatically comes up.

That would be nice, but users should have the option to disable it, and it should disapear once viewed.
Notifications of replys should not be implimented.

Seems like this would create an influx of members toward the HF News. Plus, the news usually gives members some interesting up-to-date things of what is going on with the forum. It could actually be a great feature.
