1. Create a new picture and add a new layer with a text (you should already know how to do this I suppose...)

2. Create a New Layer

3. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create a square, slightly higher than the text. Then use the Gradient Tool, and having the white color selected as the foreground color, drag from right to left in order to create something like the one in the picture.

4. Having CTRL pressed, click on the text 's layer thumbnail. You should have Layer1 selected. Now click on Add Vector Mask.

5. Unlock Layer1 by clicking on the small icon shown in the picture. Then click on Layer1 's thumbnail (not on the vector mask).

6. Click on Window -> Animation in order to make the Animation (Frames) appear.

7. Holding SHIFT, move Layer1 to the left so as not to be visible in the picture.

8. Click on Duplicates selected frames so as to create a copy of the first layer.

9. Holding SHIFT again, move Layer1 to the right until it is not visible.

10. Then click on Tweens animation frames in order to make the animation work. Set frames to add to around 40 or 50. (you can also set it to a lower number)

11. Select the last layer and set seconds to 2.00

12. Click on File -> Save for Web & Devices and then just click on Save.

Looks like you're ALMOST there! As far as why it's not going all the way, I have no idea and can't help; but I think it'll look better if you have the shine INSIDE the letters...It makes it look more like a shine instead of a white laser scanner lol.

I know this can be accomplished rather easily; I'd say how, but I'm on Ubuntu right now and I don't remember off the top of my head without looking at the program :/

Having Layer1 selected (the one with the shine), and having CTRL pressed, you click on the text 's layer THUMBNAIL. Then click "Add Vector Mask" so as to make it appear only in the text layer.

Yeah I do mine an easier way as well.
This way is quick, but not very good if you're focusing on precision.😝

Maybe somebody could help me out with teaching me how to make a usergroup bar like the ones on HF, or point me in the direction of a good thread? I've looked, but no luck. I need to make a couple for a new forum. If you can do it in Gimp, then even better; I'm using Ubuntu so PS is a no go right now :/
