TuT - How to spoof your MAC address -/TuT-

Plain and simple.

To spoof your MAC address is to "change or cloak " your MAC address
Much like a proxy for your IP address.

First things first you need to have a Linux based distro for this tutorial.

Secondly download "mac changer" && "air crack "
(Note: if your running backtrack this is pre installed, you can skip this step)

Open a terminal and do
Code
Sudo apt-get install aircrack-ng macchanger

You have now downloaded and installed everything you
Need..
Simple huh?

To "spoof your mac" simply type this in a terminal

Code
Airmon-ng start wlan0
Ifconfig mon0 down
macchanger -m 00:11:22:33:44:54 mon0
Ifconfig mon0 up

Replace the mac with whatever mac you desire.
And substitute mon0 with your desired MAC address.

I've been meaning to ask this, but can we change a Windows machine MAC address via say, a Live CD?
You forgot a significant thing, in order to change your MAC address you'll need to bring down your interface via:
ifconfig wlan0 down
change your MAC address: macchanger -r wlan0 --> is faster, -r = randomize
bring your interface up again --> ifconfig wlan0 up

If you dont follow those steps you'll get errors.

Supposedly you can, with ethtool. To my understanding, the program is capable of writing to the EEPROM memory chip of the network device in order to change the MAC address. If I remember correctly there's an Atmel AT93C series EEPROM on the Alfa cards PCB but haven't found any mention of ethtool working for wireless devices.

See here and here.
But bro will this work on windows 7?
and what mac address do i use? i heard it should be by the admin.

Oh my god!
Your right.
I wrote this on my phone, so please excuse me for my
Minor hiccup.
I do this every day, and managed to leave that
Out.

Fixed.

No, he clearly said it's only for linux and not windows.
Here you go: MAC-ADDRESS

No, as I stated: you must use a Linux based distro.

The idea of spoofing your mac is too do 2 things.

1: to anonymise your device.
2: to bypass mac filtering security

Mac filtering only allows certain mac addresses
To connect to the AP

Just use the aircrack suite to determine the MAC address connected to the slave AP
And mimic one of there mac addresses via following this tutorial.

Since there device is connected to the AP
It's mac is white listed , so if we imitate there mac
We are also white listed.

This is next to exactly what I posted with less information.

Nice tutorial! I will try this :)

Im to searching for a security camera hack.
Anybody knows a hack like that???? thnx.
There's also a program for this on the Mac called MacDaddy, and a command for it built-in to Mac, ifconfig.
So i have to bring the card out from monitor mode. Are the mac still changed when i go into monitor mode? Do i have to change back when i want the ordinary mac back?

There is that feature in the macchanger program:

macchanger wlan0 -A

read the help inside the console and there are more then just full randomize in there =]

When I use this code:

ifconfig - a | grep HWaddr

I get these two MACs:

- eth0
- wlan0

Is eth0 the router's MAC?

Would changing both of them be more effective or should I just change one?

Thanks for the tutorial OP.
