Synopsis

Shinichiro is a student living in what would be a dream come true for most high school boys, but for him is mostly a frustration. A well liked girl in school named Hiromi has lived in his house for a year along with his family. Her father was a close friend of the family, and when he died they immediately took her in. She is popular and well liked, always smiles, is talented in sports- but Shinichiro knows there must be tears inside her. Having an artistic tendency, he makes watercolours of her and thinks about wishing to ease her tears. Yet he cannot bring up the nerve to talk to her even in his own home. She, too, is quiet and withdrawn in their house, quite unlike at school. Shinichiro is also distracted by teasing from his friend Nobuse for watching Hiromi from afar, a curse of bad luck from a strange girl named Noe, and being forced to perform Muhiga dancing. By helping Noe he hopes to ease his own problems, yet he seems to have difficulty helping himself.

My Review

True Tears, Does it deserve to be grouped together with Clannad and Kanon? Lantis attempted to put together an anime that will come close to Key's productions of Clannad, And Kanon. Was True Tears good enough to stand against them? In my opinion i say yes. There was much more character development and realism between all of the characters. Because it was not 5-7 girls wanting to get with one guy there was barely room for character development.

Now, i'm not putting down Clannad or Kanon (I actually cried more from Clannad and Kanon more than this), I'm saying that if you like character development with romance and a love triangle this is defenetely one series that i would recommend watching.

This series was made to be as real as possible with no magic effects, everything you see is what you get, and what you get is an amazing anime series. The characters are believeable, the scenes are amazing, and the plot is just wonderful. I would recomend this anime to anyone who loved Clannad or Kanon.

Trailer (Couldn't find english sub. But this is a good one)

Good review, however I can't agree it hold a candle to clannad or kanon. True tears was a pretty quick pace anime, while it may have taken some areas slowly, in the end the relationships development would most likely only appear in manga.

I agree now that i think about it..But it is a bit more "real" if you know what i mean. But i get what you are getting at. I found the development for some characters really well done, but others rushed. I wish we got to know a bit more about the mom.

Now this I agree with, such as his bestfriends girlfriend, i feel that line of story was put in just to potentially make a filler for some minutes. I am disappointed about not understanding the mother, since they gave her such an ordeal but never went in depth.

True Tears was actually pretty good from my experience. The portrayal of "realism" over the "magic" that occured during other romance animes actually set it apart. The character designs were pretty decent too.
From my own personal experience, what really made this series good was the art. The art surpassed lots of others, including Clannad, Kanon, School Days, etc.

I'm glad more people enjoyed this anime than not. I found it to be great, watched it all in one day :3 still think it's good!

Indeed a good one! Going o watch this at some time, thanks! :)
True tears was quite good and emotional, definetly recommended from here.

Some twists also, which I love, it makes a dramatic effect, but there is one thing that I hate.
The thing is:
The ending

I really regretted it, I almost went crying because it just... hit me.

Well both Clannad and Kanon hold the 'supernatural' tag, so it's not that surprising really.

I really liked True Tears aswell. Although I wouldn't put it on the same level as Clannad or Kanon based on my memory, it's a really good alternative.

I wouldn't go as far as clannad or kanon but i would say it's one of the better clannad theme based anime's i have seen.

I was going to watch it at one point, but I didn't for two reasons:
A) I have a thing for short-haired girls. Spoiler (Click to View)
B) It's all about crying and drama, I'm not a heavy fan of drama.

I loved the True Tears OP. The story was pretty average I guess I didn't cry but I still enjoyed it.
