Terrible News (continuation part 3)

Just read the whole new thread and I like what I am seeing.
Good luck.
Hopefully if the DB is released Omni would let us change our user IDs. That way the data in the DB wouldn't be able to be pointed to us.
On the whole I'm happy with the way Omni handled the issue in a mature way but it's a pity (and must be quite humiliating) that he has to give in to the person's demands.

Discussed, but it's not going to happen. It would fuck too much up.

To add onto that it would make all Deal Disputes useless.

You really have no idea how long that would take to actually do..

Oh, and any hacker would easily decit the algorithm to then link back to the user.. If one is able to get into HF, I'm pretty sure such a task would be a breeze.

I don't think you realise that your username is also included in the leak. So it's a username change and UID change.
TBH. I think MOST of the members posting are overreacting. Yes, you feel exposed. Yes, you feel like Omni messed up.. But seriously, I'll give you some reasons why..

1) He won't release it publicly. He won't make money that way.

2) Unless you have someone that is willing to find him, contact him, and pay him money for your information, you shouldn't even be raging or scared of this situation happening. You're just a needle in the haystack filled with thousands of other
needles. It may hurt you, but be realistic, chances are, no one even cares who you are or what your information is. Like me.

3) Omni awarded him because, hell, like Omni said, a hacker hacked the biggest hacking site on the internet, which in itself is a respectable thing to accomplish. (Plus, he was able to convince him to keep 'quiet".)

4) Why wouldn't you want him on the site? You could probably learn everything you needed to learn about hacking from him. He would probably be one of the most knowledgeable members on this forum when it comes to website security.

5) Personally, if I found out his HF name, I'd probably +rep him. He earned it. He did something that none of you could do. And he wasn't a complete dick about it. (For the most part)

Now, I don't mean to side with him 100%. But this is a Hacking Forum. A place where people POST their hackings of other websites. Give him the same respect you would give someone else for hacking a .gov/.edu, or a well known site like Paypal. Stop being such kids, shit happens. Omni is trying to handle it the best he can.
Quote:Couldn't you store anything important on a external hardrive that in idk a safe?

I have backups offline that no one can access. But I still have to have lots of data for daily work on my local computer.

Quote:What happens when he gets his account and gets angry at a member? He will just release their data.

He's subject to the same rules. He can't post private data and I won't allow him to use the site to threaten members. But I'm pretty sure you should think twice before making any members angry.

He actually didn't demand things. He actually was pretty polite about his request. So we discussed it and came to a mutual compromise that imho benefits members.
As for changing our emails if we don't feel safe for PayPal/Bank, I never hook my accounts up under one email, I have around 7-10 emails all dedicated for their own protection along with different passwords.
I ain't trusting shit itself.

For my HF account email, I do have a PayPal that is hooked up on it which I process payments through it for my own address/name protection. Anyway, are you going to share who the guy is? The ub3r you gave and etc? I want to -3 him.

I agree completely with this, Omni didn't mess up, He didn't know the site wasn't 100% secure, because let's face reality there isn't going to be a website on the net that actually has 100% Security, Omni did his best to stop it... Therefore we should all be thankful to him for saying sorry, there is nothing else he can do, unless you want him to death threat the guy that fucking hacked into the database?

And I, as-well as all the other members, should be thanking you for that.
At this point, we are lucky this "person" did it and not some asshole that would use it to harm others/post it publicly.

This isn't the place to be asking something like this.
Follow the Stolen and Lost HF Accounts to complete the steps in recovering your account.

This is where I stand. Also, I appreciate this guy's "professionalism" along with Omni's attitude to towards the matter. I think that everyone is doing a good job of handling the situation.
So who did it? It seems like some of you know...
