TMAS: Tell Me A (Sci-Fi) Story - Prize: I, Robot by Isaac Asimov (Printed Copy)

TMAS:
Tell Me A Story
Sci-Fi Edition
Welcome everyone, to yet another contest/giveaway done by your's truly, Magicmann. While I doubt many of you will recognize me, I've grown quite fond of HackForums, and despite my being new to the site as a registered member, I have been trying my best to give back to the community. While I do, so much, love HackForums as it is, I am rather disappointed by the lack of intelligence shown by a good portion of it, so I'm going to start a monthly contest called TMAS: Tell Me A Story.

Of course, every contest has to have a prize. You wanna know what your prize will be? A paperback copy of Isaac Asimov's I, Robot. Delivered to your front door. Yes, you will have to give me your address if you win. I can't send you it otherwise.

TMAS Rules:

1. In order to be eligible to enter this contest, you have to write me an original story following the theme of this contest, Science Fiction.
2. Your story has to be completely original. You wrote it. Not your boyfriend. Not your girlfriend. Not your mother. Not your dog. Any entries found to be fraudulent will have you disqualified from ALL my future contest and giveaways.
3. Your story has to be AT LEAST two-hundred words and have a clear beginning, middle, and end. The two-hundred word thing I'll be lenient on, so long as you write a damned good story.
4. The deadline will be either once we get twenty entries, OR September 4th; whichever comes first.
5. You may only submit one story. If you submit more than one, only the first one will be counted.
6. Have fun, be creative.
7. I will chose my favorite three stories, and then a poll will be made and everyone else will decide who wins. Asking for votes is grounds for disqualification from this, and all future contest/drawings/giveaways by your's truly.

Still accepting entrants. Come on guys! I was really hoping HF was more creative than this.

Contest still open. And I'm starting to get disheartened. Come oooon people. At least three entries is all we need to do this. Three short stories. Is no one capable of writing a single short story? Does no one like to read?

Come on HF, surely you can write a short story? Take some time and do it. Did you know that writing can help you relax and release stress?

Contest still open! Like I said before, all I need is three entries. (I'd like more, but I'll do the contest with a minimum of three)

Surely you're capable of writing a short story? Because you're kinda starting to depress me with your lack of creativity, HF.

No one wants to do it cause if they win they have to give there address

What am I going to do? Fly to your house and steal your Grandma's dentures?

Unfortunately, this is the wrong forum (HF) to be doing this. Most of us are not writers, rather we are the computer people. This looks like an amazing contest, and you are obviously a cool member. The member above, who posted about their address being shared, is probably almost completely wrong.

I have dabbled in writing, but turns out I don't have the drive to finish my work. Good luck with the contest, but I don't think it will work out. :(

Wow. Just read the first chapter of what you wrote and it isn't that bad at all. I wish it were sci-fi so I could include you as an entrant. 😭

Don't worry. It gets worse. ;) The whole inspiration for it is in the first chapter, and everything after is a little bit forced.

Wouldn't it be cheating if that was entered? I wrote it about a year ago, and it's not finished. I got tired of writing it.

Good luck with the contest though.

Technically it would be cheating, but if it were on topic; I would accept it only because I've had no entries.

My turnout has been depressingly low, and I'm just going to call it now; it doesn't seem like I'm going to get at least three entries. I really wanted to give away a copy of it, though, so keep looking for a contest with looser entry stipulations for a copy of I, Robot.

Sertroph PM'd me a short beginning to what seems like it could be a great story. Seeing as how not a single other person took the time to even write a little more than two-hundred words like he did, I'm going to call it: Sertroph is our winner.

Assuming he replies to my PM and doesn't mind telling me his address (and lives in the States), I'll be sending him his copy of I, Robot tonight!

Sertroph Wrote:I look down at the weapon in my hands. My Squad Leader called it a Open Sighted Solar Powered Light Condenser. I don't even know what that means. But I do know that if I line up the sights on top of it and pull the trigger, a burnt hole the size of my fist will appear on whatever I aimed at. I heard some of the other guys calling it a laser gun, but my squad leader said it didn't work that way. Whatever.

I look around at my other squad members. they are all older than me, and a few of them have burn marks across their faces. This isn't their first time.

I am sitting on a piece of military grade plastic, with two weak looking straps across my chest. I hope the aircraft doesn't crash. With the ceiling being maybe a fot above my head, I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must be for the taller or older guys. I guess I have it easy.

The rumble I hear is accompanied by a dip in the plane. Over the loud speakers, I hear a voice yell "TEN MINUTES UNTIL DROPOFF". I wish they would turn the volume down on that thing.

I remember when life was a lot easier than this, and I was happy. I wish I could be happy again.

Ended up giving Sertroph a $15 Barnes and Noble egift-card.
