Is RATing hacking/Does RATing make you a hacker?

Ha! You forgot to add crazy mouse to the equation. 🤣 Ultimate sadistic mode!

To the OP, I don't think RATting makes someone a hacker. I believe people that RAT using DC, BS (any other popular RATting software) are just using a known hack to their advantage. Not necessarily hacking themselves.

In a different perspective.
1. ScidA downloads the torrent "Winrar 2.24.32.2 CRACKED" from somebody who has cracked Winrar and the cracker has also made a nice little application that automatically cracks the Winrar.
2. ScidA uses the cracking app to crack the app. Is ScidA the cracker?

No, he is just using a known hack/crack to his advantage. Just like scids that use automated services like DC, BS. (Yes, I am one of those scids.) If someone personally wrote the code and it's all his/her own work THEN and only THEN someone is a hacker. Just my two cents. 🎉
i always said that hacking is about staying behind a someone's computer, watching what he is doing, and steal data even from him, but the way here depends ..
like if someone did that upon a tutorial over the youtube knowing nothing about what he is doing except that he is following some clicks then that's a 0 knowledge hacker "SKID"
and if someone is doing that without ratting tools, he managed to go through vulnerabilities then that's a true hacker !
so i think in your case .. if the guy is not aware with what he is doing he will be a badass SKID

Do you believe RATing makes you a hacker, and is it considered hacking?

No.

Why is it or why is it not?

Your definition says it all :

Quote:A hacker is someone who seeks and exploits weaknesses in a computer system or computer network.

Let's take someone (a skid) who use a RAT. He downloads for example DarkComet, he sets it up, portforward, crypt his server, etc. etc. And he manage to infect someone. Can we said HE seeked and exploited the weaknesses in his victim's computer ? OR he let the tool do all the seeking and exploiting job ? The answer is pretty obvious. Everyone knows how to use tools, pre-made tools, it doesn't make you a hacker. A TRUE hacker would be the person who actually CODED the RAT. Why ? Because he coded it in function to make it usable for malicious intentions, to make a "tool" that would infiltrate in a computer system or a computer network and enter in action. THIS PERSON, while CODING, SEEKED the weaknesses of a computer system and a computer network in order to EXPLOIT it WITH his tool. This person is a true hacker. People who USES his tool (skids), are nothing but people who knows how to read a tutorial and follow instructions (and even there, 3/4 of the time they won't understand anything of what they're reading). The same concept applies for crypters. The PERSON who CODED the crypted CAN be considered an hacker as he used all his knowledge to SEEK weaknesses and EXPLOIT them. The person who just download his crypter, execute it and click "Crypt", isn't an hacker.

Add additional info here :

For all the skids there that want to be considered "hacker", I just have one things to tell you : using tools doesn't make a person a hacker. Coding his own tool makes a person a hacker, nothing more. So you want to become a true "hacker" ? Start off by learning the basics, and when I speak of the basics, I go as simple as computing in general. Then move on the computing domains : websites, networking, etc. THEN move on to a programming language. And when you feel like you get the hang of everything. Put EVERYTHING together as well with your KNOWLEDGE and your ability to CODE/PROGRAM, and make your own god damn things. THIS, and only THIS, will make you a true "hacker".

Oh boy this thread looks familiar.

Maybe, but the answear is No. A hacker would probably be a skilled invidual that can much regarding how the net is up-built and how to exploit it.
For exemple basic things - SQli,Lfi,Rfi,rce and so on.

Where else did you think I got the idea? 🤭
If you did everything by hand like:
Code a crypter with a crypter and made use of an exploit that allowed easy spreading then: yes.
If you were just a skid and c+p'd everything, then: no.

Even if you just made a crypter for it, i wouldnt consider you too much of a skid.
