However, to say that he is the only one who deserves it is quite immature and disrespectful to the others on the list. This contest is, has, and will always be a competition about the one who has positively AFFECTED the most people. Writing hacking tutorials is not a red carpet towards the golden cup. You guys are both right. In my opinion, he's deserving it more than anyone, BUT by saying that I'm not saying that he's the only one to deserve it. Of course not. Everybody in the poll deserve it I guess. @Snorlax Including some stats in your post won't help, because it will only prove it's all about popularity. I mean, okay HFES thread got more replies, and then what? I could just take a well known thread of the lounge with a lot of replies and say that too. Replies mean nothing. Again, it's my opinion. Now, just voting for Emylbus because he's well known for his userscript, WITHOUT checking other's threads, including Keeper's, is unfair in my opinion. ![]() (Dec 1, 2013 07:24 AM)Wallet Wrote: MOTM is an popularity contest, sadly it is the fact. The members who are nominated and mentioned in this poll all deserves an Award in my opinion, since it's all about popularity. To those who does not win; keep doing what you're doing, never give up. Once those popular members are thrown of the wagon it's your turn to shine. Known members are known mostly for the fact that they have greatly contributed to HF. ![]()

The HFES can be used and appreciated by everyone, particularly those who tend to spam the fuck out of every section across this board. Are you seriously implying the number of replies has any correlation with their respective thread? Do you have any idea what a minute percentage of this forum even understand the titles of Keeper's threads? Every one of his tutorials take more time, skill, dedication and knowledge to complete than 150 of the other shit threads thrown around this site. Yes, I agree that it's unfair to say he's the only one who deserves to be on the list, but it's perfectly accurate to say he's the only one who deserves to win the thing. But that's just my opinion. They all deserve it. This is the Member of the Month, not "Most Knowledgeable Tutorial Writer". Crypto

However I find it highly disappointing to see someone with such a massive contribution towards the site ignored when they (in my opinion) frequently output such high quality content, something we as a community strive towards? As for the image you replied with, well, Keeper ticks all those boxes. Its just unfortunate he can only be appreciated by a fraction of the population here, unlike Emylbus!

There is a reason as to why we were nominated you know. Exactly. It takes effort, you really need to stand out in order to be one of the 7-10 members chosen, out of over two MILLION, to partake in the poll positions. Even if you don't win, being on this list to begin with is something that should tell you that you are going a great job in the community, and that your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Whether that's by posting tutorials, helping people out, being a great moderator, donating in excess to the forum's future, or any other reasons why you stand out from the millions of other members present on this site. I'm unsure why there is a need for an argument here. Any member should be happy with even being nominated as it shows they stood out enough to be noticed. There are users that deserve to win for multiple reasons, it's unfair to say one member deserves this more than others in my opinion.

I never said he didn't meet all of them, only that he clearly excels in the first one. 😉 He is a wonderful member, I can see that by his contributions, and I wish more members were like him. However, this forum covers a very wide variety of topics, and it takes being noticed in many of them in order to achieve votes. Keeper deserves it, without a doubt. But he isn't the only one who does. He simply spread himself very thin with the contributions he committed, causing people to not know who he is and instead vote for those who they know, which is unfortunate but that's just how it works. I wouldn't say he's spread himself thin more that he has only covered a few certain topics. Almost to the point where it's not possible for most members to follow as, lets face it, this community is not on that kind of level. He's far above most normal users. Perhaps this makes him stand out in those sections but most users wouldn't normally visit for example the cryptography section so he's less well known than say Emlybus as he is active in quite a few sections and helps out in all of them. |
