OMC

OmniCoin [OMC] - HF's Unofficial Crypto Currency - Scrypt Based - Omni Approved.

(Dec 19, 2013 08:31 PM)Crypto™ Wrote:  I agree that it should be posted, but that should be Aurora's call as to when, or when somebody gets fed up with waiting and takes matters into their own hands.

I think it should be posted soon. Definitely before the first halving. But once again, I'm going to defer to Aurora.

Thats what I figured, it is getting a bit late to try to post though if it is ever going to be.

🤝🤐🤝
Its to late.. this coined will be considered premine.

I think Omni's got a plan for it. Between him and Aurora, I don't think it's too late ;) Since it technically wasn't premined, people just didn't know where to look.

The matter is just convincing people of that, and then promoting it. That, and Omni suggested that it would have future use on HF as well.

It isn't premined at all. Who cares what people think on Bitcointalk.org? Post it there and all you'll get is "shit clone", etc, etc. I don't have time to work on this for a week so I'll post it if you guys really want it that bad on BTCTalk.

OMC has a cap of 172M coins (by reading the code though)

Due to HF changing multiple numbers like 22-22-22-22 (remove the hyphens) to 2 or something, it is written as 172800 in the main post, but in actual fact it is indeed 172 million coins.

Still, people were saying that about Dogecoin. It's still worth a shot. I may do that if I find time.

I believe it allows up to 3 repeated characters, so you could try comma-ing it, like 172,800,000. Just a thought.

Quote:I'm not sure exactly what point he's trying to get through, but personally I just meant that if we wanted the boost from them, it would be too late now, because everyone would hate the devs for not releasing it there first.

You really think they are that petty? I still think you don't know what you're talking about. Give me one thread example where they're butthurt a currency wasn't launched there.

Quote:I don't think you know what you're talking about when it comes to coins. If you regularly watch new coins being posted you will see how much shit they can get for not being posted on ANY of the major coin forums. This just happened to Netcoin, I'm not saying it's impossible to do without posting at bitcointalk but it has become something that is a huge helping hand if you want to get going.

Wow. I don't spend much time there but who the fuck do they think they are? Bitcointalk has absolutely no real marketplace for the usage of crypto currency. We're actually a market using them daily. Their site is only about mining and technical shit that's the back end of the currency. We're the actual end-users that make currencies matter.

It's like Football coaches getting butthurt because players are on other teams. Coaches are NOT the game...players are. We're the players.

Quote:You say we don't need validation or promotion through them thats fine, but you should think about it in the terms they know a lot of things you, me, or a lot of members here don't know.

Like what? Anyone can dev a coin from the open source. We have some pretty knowledegable people here already.

Quote:They could have helped in making pools, making block explorers, making faucets, giveaways, etc.

Everything we can do without their actual help. Everything is open to read on their site. They have tutorials posted and you don't even need an account.

Quote:If we are talking about this forum only using the coins that's fine, but if we wanted to try to get this a bigger coin to be possibly used in the future we are shooting ourselves in the foot by not doing it. Whats the bad thing about posting it there in your opinion?

Your original statement was that we had a limited amount of time to post there else we would have problems. Actual use of a coin gives it value. It doesn't gain any value being promote at a site that probably gets 5 new currencies promoted every week now with the latest "OMGCOOLCOIN" get rich quick scheme.

You're not thinking strategically. That's what I do and I do it very well.

Quote:Anyways I guess we may have different views when it comes to good marketing and good coin knowledge :P

Marketing is unrelated to coin knowledge.

Quote:We don't need promotion or validation from BitcoinTalk, since we have a budding community around it here.

Exactly. If I put into place mechanisms for actual use of the coin it will have immediate value even if only just here. But we're the larger community. Much larger in fact. Why care about promoting at a site that's 1/10 the size of HF?

Quote:I can see the point you are making and that is valid, what I mean is the "helping hand" factor

Helping hand? We have a shit load of resources here. Hosting admins, miners, social networking pros, and crypto-heckers. What don't we have here? And what's at Bitcointalk that we can't just read in their forum?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134179.0

That mega list of all the crypto currencies there just tells me that the place is flooded anyways and promoting there is like trying to sell dirt in the middle of the desert.

The only hope any new currency has is strong MARKETING. And you don't begin your plan at bitcointalk. That's a shit idea.

Quote: If the coin is going to rise in value, it will probably increase more if posted on Bitcointalk. Many people on that forum have at least decent rigs, while people on here are mining with a few kh/s or botnets (stereotypical).

Mining doesn't create the value.

Quote:Either way, it's whether we want the coin to have an actual value, or to just be used on this forum.

It's not a certainty but even we can give it value here that will spread to other sites. Maybe some of you clowns don't understand word-of-mouth marketing.

Quote:True, I mean anything posted on bitcointalk usually jumps 300mhash instantly. I do see what you mean about Omni having some power over the impact of the coin.

Again that doesn't give it a value. It just puts the crypto currency in circulation. I'm sure at Bitcointalk everyone just puts their miners on for a few hours into any crypto currency just to do it and hold a pile of them just in case. If you think 100 people having 10,000 coins creates value you're mistaken. You want 10,000 people having 100 coins and those 10,000 people to actually have a use for them.

So to market any coin you must make sure there will be an end use.

Quote:Its to late.. this coined will be considered premine.

Oh I see now what you think is important. That those at Bitcointalk are told early so they can mine a gazillion coins first and then they can hype them because they want to sell them quick. That's bullshit HYPE. We don't need that. It does not create value.

Quote:It isn't premined at all. Who cares what people think on Bitcointalk.org? Post it there and all you'll get is "shit clone", etc, etc. I don't have time to work on this for a week so I'll post it if you guys really want it that bad on BTCTalk.

Don't bother. If anything it's proof of our integrity.
Added my hashing power to the OMC network. Currently mining to Doctor Blue's pool :) might overtake a few of the miners by a lot of hash rates but don't feel bad!
You really think they are that petty? I still think you don't know what you're talking about. Give me one thread example where they're butthurt a currency wasn't launched there.

It has happened multiple times, about to sleep so don't have time to find a exact example, hopefully someone could link.

Just in the currency not including all the other subforums for TRADING crypto currencies

It's like Football coaches getting butthurt because players are on other teams. Coaches are NOT the game...players are. We're the players.

I see what you are saying but thats a bad metaphor since the coaches and owners do run 99% of sports lol. You could say we are the fans though, I do believe that.

Like what? Anyone can dev a coin from the open source. We have some pretty knowledegable people here already.

Never said we didn't its just they have a larger amount of people with knowledge on specifically cryptocurrencies.

Everything we can do without their actual help. Everything is open to read on their site. They have tutorials posted and you don't even need an account.

Never said we couldn't just said more people could help it grow faster.

Your original statement was that we had a limited amount of time to post there else we would have problems. Actual use of a coin gives it value. Once again taking words out of context, what I said was we had a limited amount of time were we could post it without having a bunch of troll spamming the thread about a altrelease. It could gain value on its own, I was looking to speed up the process.

You're not thinking strategically. That's what I do and I do it very well.
Once again we just think differently. Not trying to attack you or your methods at all. I mean thats what these forums are about having discussions.

Marketing is unrelated to coin knowledge.
I meant marketing in the terms of marketing the coins, I could have phrased that better.

Exactly. If I put into place mechanisms for actual use of the coin it will have immediate value even if only just here. But we're the larger community. Much larger in fact. Why care about promoting at a site that's 1/10 the size of HF?

Never said it had no value, once again I was saying bitcointalk to speed up the process of getting MORE value faster.

Helping hand? We have a shit load of resources here. Hosting admins, miners, social networking pros, and crypto-heckers. What don't we have here? And what's at Bitcointalk that we can't just read in their forum?

Like I said above, I do believe we have alot of amazing intelligent members here who could help. But the more people helping the more work that can be done.

That mega list of all the crypto currencies there just tells me that the place is flooded anyways and promoting there is like trying to sell dirt in the middle of the desert.

The only hope any new currency has is strong MARKETING. And you don't begin your plan at bitcointalk. That's a shit idea.

So what is your idea? Thats what I am still curious about. Begining your plan based on HACKFORUMS is no better then bitcointalk. The name HACKFORUMS may scare alot of people off.

Mining doesn't create the value.
Not directly but more coins in circulation.

It's not a certainty but even we can give it value here that will spread to other sites. Maybe some of you clowns don't understand word-of-mouth marketing.

True but Omnicoin has a large amount of coins and it can trickle down

So to market any coin you must make sure there will be an end use.

Of course, thats common sense, I am still waiting to know what you are thinking, or are you just planing on using it to trade of HF?

Oh I see now what you think is important. That those at Bitcointalk are told early so they can mine a gazillion coins first and then they can hype them because they want to sell them quick. That's bullshit HYPE. We don't need that. It does not create value.

Never said I want a pump and dump, don't put words in my mouth, the original reason I even said put it on bitcointalk was because alot of users here counldn't mine for awhile because their was no pools, etc

Anyways, I'll just end with this.

It is not impossible for the coin to get value without posting it anywhere else, it is MY opinion though that it would help move things along faster. We just have differing views on things. I'm totally cool with that, we are free to take it whichever way we want.

I assume since the coin is named after you Aurora is talking to you about future plans, I wish you guys and this coin the best, never tried to shittalk the coin.

I hope that someday the coin will be worth 0.01 0.10 1 Whatever I would love to see this happen, I was one of the first miners of this coin and even donated 20k of them to Aurora to give away for bounties.

The only question I really have is I just want to know why you don't want to post the coin there? Aside from the fact you don't think we need to (once again you are entitled to your opinion) I just want to know why you are so against posting it? Don't want them to mine more then us? Value? Think it will be killed? Ego :P j/k etc?.

It has been fun debating btw :D always love a good debate.

ps. Sorry about the jumbled look of the post, you must have spent awhile quoting so many parts of my post, It's 2am and I'm just to tired atm to do it.
I've singlehandedly quintupled the network hashrate and will probably own 51% of the network. I don't plan anything malicious but it feels cool!

Botnet or just really powerful rigs lol? Very nice, hopefully you won't 51% the coin lol.

This is one reason it would be good to have more Omnicoin Pools soon
