Responsive Design Vs. Desktop/Mobile site

Recently been doing quite a few projects with responsive design so they work out well on all devices.

I've run into a few problems that would be easier solved by just making a separate site for Phone - Tablet sized screens.

Which of these methods is the best to use considering all content is available on each?

I prefer responsive designs over a separated site.. It's easier for us, developers, and easier for the user, that they don't need to exchange domains or directories or subdomains it's all the same and the same neat theme for all the site.

That's my opinion tho.
Use the CSS3 specification's @media (media queries) attribute. What it generally does is detect "WHAT DEVICE", and then use a different style sheet based on what device you're using. You can set if statements making it look like so:

I understand how responsive design works. I want to know why some say it is better than a separate mobile site.

Complexity, and routing. Sometimes you will not be able to determine if the user is mobile or not based off of their user agent.

It's also a pain to be redirected to another subdomain and lose your progress.

It's also a LOT easier to make a site responsive then to build a 2nd one (typically).
Responsive web design is now slowly becoming standard. It's handy for things like resizing the window.
For a better today.

Should always ask the user if they want mobile or desktop versions, and progress should be kept and can be.

But yeah, it usually is easier I guess.

Thanks for the post. -
