Hey guys, Yoan here with a little question !
So because my school finally moved to Visual Studio 2012 from Visual Studio 2010, I'll have to upgrade my current Visual Studio 2010 to either VS2012 or ViS2012. I want to know, if there any compatibility issues between VS2012 and VS2013 projects (because there was between VS2010 and VS2012, projects were not compatibles) ? Or I'll be able to freely open my projects in both VS2012 and VS2013 no matter what VS I used to create the original project ? If you have any pros/cons to add on VS2012 or VS2013, feel free to post them.
Thank you 🙂

What do you mean with incompatible?? Every newer VS can open older VS projects? 😧 I've used VS 2010, 12 and currently 13. I never had any problems opening a project I made in VS12. (Neither I did with opening VS10 projects in VS12?)
I didn't read the VS13 change log, but as far I know TFS is mostly updated, and VS13 is compatible with .NET4.5 and updated for C#5.0 (amazing ;D) I do not see any advantage of using an older development area when a new version is available.

I don't know, we used to have trouble transferring projects we made in Visual Studio 2010 in Visual Studio 2012 for some reason. That's why all the students installed Visual Studio 2010 on their computer, so it will match the VS2010 of school's computers and everything will run fine. But you know, softwares at school are often configured in a weird way and sometimes, the most basic features doesn't even work 😝

I think the problem was you guys were trying to open a VS12 Solution on a VS2010, maybe that doesn't work but you always could just start a new solution in VS2010 and then open the project in the solution, or just bring your own laptop to school :P
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS MEMBER
No there isn't, but when you're saving your projects make sure they have .Netframework 4.0 because that's what my School uses.

Some teachers doesn't allow us to have our laptop with us for some reason 😑
And nah, it was really VS2010 in VS2012 that wasn't working for some reason so of course the opposite wasn't working too 😝

That's good to know 🙂
I think it will not be a problem. I had my first class today, we were doing ASP.NET (MVC) and the projects were set to use .NET Framework 4.5, so it might be good. I'll just have to check is VS2013 per default uses 4.5.1, which I think it does.

What you code? I would say VS2010, but VS2012/13 would also work if daffodil & visual assist X is installed 👹

I'll be mostly doing C# and ASP.NET. But I guess I could do C++ on it too, even if I would prefer use Netbeans for C++ coding.

Yup, if you don't use visual assist x on your visual studio yet - give it a try. I myself can't even use VS if I don't have that 😝

I don't know what Visual Assist X is 😝 Is it like an auto completion thing ?

Yeap, and also all keywords are colorized better etc. :) Once you use it, you can't go back 🤝

What are the advantages over Resharper?

I haven't used that. I have it, but never used it. Isn't it only for .NET?
