Furuya's not interested in the living, he's got zombies on the brain! When Furuya's cat dies, he decides he's going to try and bring it back to life. In the process, he stumbles across a girl who is involved in an accident and turns into a real zombie! What's Furuya going to do now that the thing he loves the most is right in front of his eyes?

First of all, before going into any specifics, I want to say that this was perhaps one of the most enjoyable animes I have watched thus far. I'm not quite sure as to why even. Perhaps it was the mix of romance, supernatural, and comedy all in one.

Sound
7/10
Perhaps out of all of the key points, this is the lowest scored. The music is not terrible, but not memorable. The opening and ending songs are just meh. They are not fantastic, although they do have their moments. For example, I feel that some horror music fit the mood perfectly, yet the sweet and somber moments lacked that "feel" to it, and vice versa.

Plot
9/10
I feel as though the plot itself was well planned out. It is a very interesting plot, with romance and humor intertwined with horror and mystery. The amount of humor did not ruin the concept of the story, or damage the flow of the story in any way, shape, or form. I feel that the humor they added was subtle enough not to ruin any of the somber scenes. This is where they excel. Just a warning to those who expect an ending to this Anime: there isn't one. Season one ends in a cliffhanger, and many are expecting a season two, although there have not been any news in regards to this.
Characters
Chihiro Furuya

Chihiro is a very laid-back kind of guy. He is rather lazy, and dislikes work, but helps clean around the property when asked. According to his family, before Rea moved in, Chihiro was irresponsible in many ways, but after meeting Rea and promising to take care of her, he becomes much more serious. He is quick-witted and somewhat analytical, and also has an up-front way of presenting his analyses that seems to make him an effective speaker, as evidenced by his ability to convince both Rea's father and her stepmother of their shortcomings. He has professed a huge passion for zombies every since he was a little kid. He's not particularly fond of sneaking around and other such activities, but he will go to great lengths to strengthen his obsession and learn more about zombies and the dead. Despite his obsession with zombies, he is very afraid of ghosts and other things involving live horror, such as haunted houses.

Rea Sanka

Rea is a young girl who has long black hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. After her zombification her skin becomes almost entirely white and her eyes become a crimson red. She is described as 'beautiful' by her Father and boys in Shiyou Boys High School. Placed diagonally on her belly is the long scar that she received from the cliff-drop that killed her.

Ranko Saōji

She is very supportive. She hates seeing others down and hates when people go about things too easily. She tells Chihiro that "kisses mean a lot and that you shouldn't do them so freely".
She is very sensitive, but she is caring. She tries to help others, since she doesn't like being lonely. She gets along well with the Furuya family and even Rea.

Character Development
8/10
I feel as though they could have gone more into Chihiro's background, his relationship with his parents, and his relationship with his sister. I suppose this is touched on in the manga (which I have not yet read but heard good things about). However, doing too much character development would simply just be unnecessary, and result in the stretching of the plot which would most likely bore the viewer.
Animation/Art
8/10
Without a doubt, the animations were amazing. The motion was fluid, and the artists knew how to fill scenes with feelings of emotion such as happiness, sadness, or tension/anticipation. Perhaps their highest point was their background scenery. I think they did a really good job with this.
Overall Enjoyment
9/10
As I said before, this Anime has earned its place in my heart as one of the best Supernatural/Romcom Animes out there. The writers know how to make scenes emotional, funny, and just plain out wacky. They know how to mix up these scenes to keep the watcher interested as well.
Would you recommend it?
Definitely. If you love the supernatural, comedy, and shounen, I recommend you watch this.

Nice review :D Not a lot of zombie anime out there but Sankarea was a good one. I found it to be quite enjoyable, Jogorou was one of my favorite characters.
Yeah. It's a shame that there was no second season though.
