Quote:Also I think it's pretty clear who understands the rules and who doesn't.
I don't think it is. I see backseat moderation daily and rumors about what's a rule and what's not are flying around endlessly. IMHO it's why I have to actually make clear changes constantly explaining or unexplaining what people are saying.
Mentors would have zero moderator powers.
Quote:He should remove better chance of getting staff since that is just encouraging 50 more people to apply.
If I said you should be knowledgable about rules to be on staff would you believe I am encouraging people to read the rules? Seems rather obvious that those in the Mentor group stand a better chance of being on staff. The same actually applies to those in ub3r. Is it a requirement? No it's not but certainly it doesn't hurt your chances. Fact is that most hardcore members eligible for staff are in l33t/ub3r group already.
Quote:Well true but don't you think just having that in their is going to make a lot of people join just for the fact they could possibly become closer to staff.
And this is a negative how? As far I can tell this is my actual intent. I see too much backseat moderation going on from people that don't have a clue. At the very least Mentors would have an idea of policies and people could be more trusting of statements from Mentors when it comes to site policies.
Even another idea struck me. I could make it so that if a Mentor reported a post it would get "unapproved" until staff saw the post themselves. Not moderator powers and yet would be very helpful.
Quote:Now I am starting to understand why you denied my suggestion earlier. You like having groups that help the forum more then just cause havoc.
Yes I don't see the need to add groups that serve no purpose on HF. Any new groups are going to be created by me and will be for a purpose.
Quote:I also think Braco has a great suggestion on appointing certain individuals to certain "speciality" areas.
These are not forum moderators. Their specialty will be site rules and policies.
