--First pick what learning style you are---
There's:
- People who learn better hearing (Auditory Learners)
- People who learn better seeing (Visual Learners)
- People who learn better touching (Kinesthetic Learners)
Finding which learning style you are can give you a great advantage to learning new content. Here is a link to find out what learning style you are.

--Secondly, start using those learning style methods--
Kinesthetic- This is my type of learning style. These are the people I like to call "expensive learners" or "picky learners" because you can literally view a tutorial or listen on how to do something and it goes out the other ear. You barley remember anything, you need something hands on.
Classes: So in order to do something hands on, you need hands on content. Now the most effective method for hands on learners, in my best opinion, is to physically take a class. The class doesn't have to be over ethical hacking. Take a class over basic networking. After that, maybe take a class over HTML and then programming(c++ and python would be recommended). Taking classes in Networking, Programming, or Website Development would be a great start. The reason I say this is because I am currently a student at a local college. It's great to take this kind of course content because it simply splits everything in segments and ethical hacking involves every one of those segments and more.
Online Course Material:As a kinesthetic learner and partially visual learner, this is what I recommend. The reason why I say this is because most of the time you get free lifetime access to the content you purchased. It's not limited like it would be in classes you take. Also, it is less expensive mostly when you add up all the books and tuition for classes you attend. There are very affordable online learning programs for beginning pentesters. My advice would to be, WAIT FOR THEIR DEALS.
Here are some virtual labs/ course material over beginning pentesting:
ALSO, another thing to take advantage of is "capture the flag" events or actually servers that challenge you to hack into their clouds.
Here's a mini-list of websites that host those events:
Some Programming Content:
Messing With Stuff: Now this kind of ties in after you take classes and want to excel your skills. You learned all the ethical talents in the previous courses, now take your skills to another level. Start downloading code. Download basic client/server applications, keyloggers, exploits. Look at the code and relate it to your programming classes (or whatever you did to learn the basics). Another thing I'd recommend is to learn Linux. A great way I learned linux is I just simply installed it as my main OS. When I didn't know how to navigate to something or extract a package, I just looked it up (and read a few ebooks). You also don't have to solely dedicate your learning style to just kinesthetic learning methods.
Visual- Youtube. Youtube. Youtube. This is the type of learning style to where you can just watch video's or read a good ebook and the information automatically syncs in your head. I like to call these people "cheap learners". I'm sure almost anyone would do anything to be a visual learner. My advice to visual learners is to read some great ebooks. Just like kinesthetic learners, you learn the same content; only you are just learning in a different style.
Here is some great content for visual learners in different categories:
Networking:
- Networking Basics --PDF
- TCP/IP Subnet Masking
- How TCP/IP Works
- Networking (IP Address) Tutorial with Buyer Brown
- Routing
- NAT
- ARP
- TCP and UDP
- Firewalls and Network Security
Programming:
Fingerprinting and Scanning:
Web Exploitation:
Types of Malware(Distinguishing Your Malware):
- Grayware
- Trojan horses
- Rootkit
- Bootkit
- Adware and Spyware
- Dialer
- Keylogger
- Botnet
- Another Botnet Link
- Ransomeware
- Worms
Some Hacking Methods:
- Bruteforcing and Dictionary Attacks
- Dictionary Attacks
- Windows Null Sessions
- Buffer Overflow
- Social Engineering /* Find most of these on grey-hat ebooks ^.^ */
Encryption:
More on some Ebooks Here..
Auditory- Honestly, this will probably be the hardest part so please bare with me. Most auditorium people learn best by repeating stuff in their head and watching tons of videos till it syncs in. With that said, It's best to just go above the videos I have made for the visual learners and keep repeating them until they sync in your head. If that doesn't work, watch a video and repeat what they did. That is how most auditorial people learn. Auditorium people are usually somewhat visual in a sense. With that said, auditorial and visual sections will be interchangeable.

--TIPS--
Ever heard of Lumosity? It can be a great tool when learning content. Seriously, just make a regimen where you do some luminosity before you view a hacking tutorial or something and it will come to you much clearer because it makes your brain more alert believe it or not.
Eat well. Your brain needs the proper nutrients to function. Therefore your brain needs nutrients to learn! Make sure you eat something so your brain isn't distracted by your hunger.
Get help with friends. If you have some good programming friends, web developers, or network heads, shoot them a question! I've done this a lot of times. In fact, by asking questions, it landed me into a job because I wanted to learn and was persistent.
