Hey guys, (made a joke out of the title). Anyways i was wondering if you guys recommend free forum software hosting or do ya'll recommend buying hosting. I was using freeforums.org but noticed there are many benefits or customizable aspects.

It really depends what you want to do with the forum. Free will do fine for you and your 5 friends. If you want something serious, then pay for it.

If you're going the paying route. There are different levels of hosting to recommend but it all depends on your needs.

Hosting for $1 - $10 /month, is budget hosting. It is fine for "very" small businesses and hobbies. (Managed)

The next step would be getting a VPS (Managed or Unmanaged). Managed is more expensive but you don't have to install, configure and handle the hosting your self. Could cost anything between $5 to $100.

Best is to get one or multiple dedicated servers. Usually costs $100+ /month. Only needed for large sites. (Managed or unmanaged)

Can't really recommend any specific service without knowing what you are going to host. It all depends on your needs.

I'd definitely go with MyBB, find a nice theme, and pay for some nice plugins.

If you really want to be unique, find a good designer who can change the look of MyBB completely and restructure the default forum. It would look awesome and unique :)

yeah, dont have a big budget so gonna start out slow and progress from there. Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions, they're appreciated
