How could the language possibly be useful if it didn't have access to memory? You wouldn't be able to have a variable, or even be able to call methods/functions, as that requires memory. Maybe Fizzix could be less straight up with his replies but as I said, the guy asked a very, very idiotic question. The bit that annoys me is how he used the words "does java even have..". I'm not going to baby people... If you're being retarded, I'll let you know. This isn't school where I'm going to baby you and teach you everything you need to know. I'm going to be as efficient as possible in making sure you know that you're wrong and/or that you need to go learn some more on your own.

Maybe tell him some learning resources or what to Google in order to learn, it just disheartens people when they get replies like that.

Also, they need to learn how to find resources themselves, and figure out if they're of good quality or not. Though, if someone explicitly asks for resources to learn, I'd be glad to give them some.

Now, remember: I didn't say you explicitly ever said the last part, but you most definitely did not say the first part either! You may be a skilled programmer (wouldn't call you a guru, but you're skilled, yes) but you can be a massive dick sometimes (most times, unfortunately), pardon my french. Besides, being retarded has nothing to do with the ability (or lack of) to gather information. It's the inability to independently solve problems. This is directly related to IQ: everything bellow 70 = retarded, and at around 25 it's serious (retarded) business. You, however, can't judge a person's IQ based on their questions on a forum like this. And if you can, go ahead and guess mine - you wouldn't get it right anyway... ![]() Puzzle level: 2/5

Nor does it convey how wrong they are. I get my points across as efficiently as possible, and make the 'arguments' as quick as possible. If someone is being retarded, I'm going to point it out and tell them why if it's not blatantly obvious; sugar coating things only wastes everyone's time. Also, you're entitled to your opinions, even when they're wrong. (Jun 21, 2014 02:04 AM)nOrr Wrote: This is directly related to IQ: everything bellow 70 = retarded, and at around 25 it's serious (retarded) business. No, actually, it's not. IQ is a part of how mental retardation is diagnosed, but by no means the most important (you can have an IQ well beyond 70 and still be mentally retarded). Also, the severity is not based on IQ, but based on adaptive functioning (which includes learning/gathering information). (Jun 21, 2014 02:04 AM)nOrr Wrote: You, however, can't judge a person's IQ based on their questions on a forum like this. And if you can, go ahead and guess mine - you wouldn't get it right anyway...Guessing someone's IQ to an exact number is a lot different than being able to recognize if someone is mentally retarded. Also, the number varies greatly, based on many factors, including which test you took. Guessing within a standard deviation typically isn't too hard once you've had a few in-person conversations with someone that are more than just casual chit chat. Anyway, when I call someone a retard, I mean they're not meeting at least one basic expectations I have for all adults that are going to try and learn or argue with me. The two that are most frequently that are not met are a basic understanding of logic, and the ability to use Google effectively (shit, if my 6 year old can do it, so should everyone else that goes on this site). By basic logic, I typically mean the ability to form or understand a valid or strong argument, regardless if it is sound or cogent, respectively. If you're trying to argue with me, and you're only providing invalid or weak arguments, then we can't progress, and you're just being retarded.

You can't just redefine the meaning of words, just because you feel like it. Basically, replace the italic "retarded" in the quoted text with "gay" (no offence, people) and your message would mean the same thing. You seem to use "retarded" instead of either "silly", "stupid", "unintelligent" (as opposed to "being so unintelligent that you're practically retarded") or "unwise" for instance. You would give a much better and much more precise answer if you used the correct words - which is what you're here for, you said. Besides, it's not about people being able to "deal with it", but about you being able to not be a complete ass, when helping people learn something new. Sure, many of the visitors here are skiddies who might not even have an opportunity to study programming later on in their lives, but there's no reason for a "java guru" to bite off their heads. ![]() Puzzle level: 2/5
Yes, there are some Java "hacking" programs on HackForums.
(Jun 21, 2014 04:37 AM)nOrr Wrote: And here's the but:No, retarded is exactly what I mean. If you are an adult (or close to it), then those basic expectations are very reasonable, as you should have these skills from elementary school or middle school at the latest. Not being able to fulfill those expectations shows a deficit in adaptive functioning, and indicates a deficit in intellectual functions. Which are two out of three criteria for being mentally retarded (the third is when the onset of the deficits happen). There is no reason for me to invest my time in someone who is mentally incapable of learning how to program. Also, it doesn't matter if it's programming or not, if someone is asking for help, or trying to learn, they should be treated that way in an environment like this. This is not a school, it's the real world, where people aren't going to waste both people's time and hold your hand. In addition, being harsh with people makes them learn faster, assuming they care at all and aren't retarded. If you're being called retarded and need to defend your arguments, you're going to make damn sure that you're right, to the best of your ability; you're also going to double check what you're saying. It also makes them more hesitant to make stupid posts, or say things they aren't entire sure about, which wastes less people's time. If they really want to contribute, they're going to do some research and make sure they're right. |
