[The Empire] How to install the Android Operating System on VirtualBox for Windows

Looks sexy. Seems to be very similar to installing a normal Linux distro.

I'll be trying this out come Saturday.

It unlocks then just re-locks lol, silly Google.

I'm not sure how you'd be able to unlock it. 😠

Thanks, Tommy boy.

It is indeed very similar to installing a normal Linux distro. Be sure to choose Linux 2.6/3.X (32bit) when installing Android-x86. It can be confusing when you get to that very first step. Let me know how it goes!

Meh. I've installed Linux 10+ times. Partitioning isn't that hard once you get used to it. I'd rather use something like fdisk rather than cfdisk. Although for a beginner tutorial like this it's probably better to use something that is similar to a GUI.

Very nice guide, Kosmos. I feel like trying this out, just because... well, I don't have any use for that to be honest, but messing around would be fun xD
Nice tutorial Kosmos, I'm definitely going to try this out when I get home. 😏
Thanks, you two. If run into any troubles, let me know. This works great and I love how well it runs. :)
Very nice tutorial. It might come in handy, appreciated!

looks interesting gonna try this out
Thankyou for this will kik and snapchat and isntagram work ?
This may sound silly, or I could have missed something in VB, but, what is the VB equivalent of pressing the power button? It went (what appears to be) sleep mode, and wont resume. Any way to turn back on short of reboot?

Edit: After setup, of course, I disabled Screen Timeout and went into Dev Options and disabled it there as well, but, an answer would still be beneficial. Thanks.
Nice tutorial, I didn't know that it was possible to install Android to your machine in another way then Bluestacks.
I'd personally rather run Genymotion. Simpler, faster, better. Download an already setup Virtual device containing Google Play services, and you're on your way.

I did not know about Genymotion, thank you for telling me about it. This is the official x86 port of Android's operating system, it is not an emulator. I'm sure the emulator is much faster, though. Does it have all Android features?

It has every feature that BlueStacks has, and more. I'm not sure how much you've messed around with BlueStacks, but you can in fact get a rooted version of BlueStacks. The interface is the same exact Android interface, rather than having the typical 'BlueStacks feel'. This is essentially what Genymotion is. It's fast, it's great.

He's a 'quick' way to get Genymotion up and running.

1. Download and install Genymotion with Virtualbox grouped together here.
2. Download the custom Virtual Device here, containing Google Play Store already installed. Otherwise, you'll have to flash the ARM Translation/upload the Gapps. Basically a long process, so don't worry about that and just grab that virtual device above.
3. Once everything is installed, ensure Genymotion is closed. Open Virtualbox, and go to File > Import Appliance (Ctrl + I) > Select the virtual device you've downloaded above and import it. When it's all said and done, close out VB and open Genymotion. You'll see that custom virtual device that is running Android 4.2.2.
4. Start it up, and you're good to go. :D
