I really liked the mind techniques in death note and the relationship L and light shared. I was wondering if anyone knew any other strategy based animes with a similar protagonist similar to how Light was starting to go crazy near the middle of the anime

(Make sure you read the stickies.)
My recommendations:
- Code Geass
- NGNL (No Game No Life)
- Steins;Gate

Not all of these share the same "Relationship" aspect but they'll definitely have you thinking.

Edit: Forgot to mention Boku no Pico. thanks Rinqt. Don't let the pictures/description fool you, It's actually an extremely well thought out story with strategy+mechs.

Kaiji Ultimate Survivor is probably the best for what you are looking to watch. Intelligent and dark series like Death Note, although it's not a light watch after the first episode which is a good thing to be honest.

Code Geass is pretty good, similar to Death Note.

Legend of The Galactic Heroes is a long series and is one of the best strategy political, sci/fi, space series out there. Worth the watch if you are into that kind of thing.

No Game No Life is the first anime that comes to mind when it comes to strategy animes.

I heard Zankyou no Terror (currently airing) is similar to Death Note in theme, and that it's pretty good. I haven't watched any episodes yet, but I'm going to watch it eventually.

[Noctua]

Watch Code Geass, it is a lot more politics but good nonetheless

I heard that Psycho-pass has a rather similar strategic vibe to it.

Boku no pico
Very much a cat and mouse like death note.

Oh yes, this is definitely not a trap.

Definitely Code Geass. Has a lot of strategy in it, the leaders have to establish intelligent strategies to defeat enemies.

Vouch, I always look to Rinqt for recommendations because they're always top notch.

No Game No Life (Last Season) and Zankyou No Terror (Current Stream) came up to my minds.

My main recommendation would be attack on titan

[basedbaboon]

Definitely No Game No Life or Steins;Gate.
I liked them both way more than death note.

If you really like Deathnote then you'll probably Code Geass and Psycho-Pass alot.
