It helps you ruin his reputation (not the number) on the forum, because people will likely not want to deal with him anymore if he has an open and legit scam report on him. So you raise awareness.

And sometimes (rarely), if he's on a scamming spree (multiple users opening scam reports on him), he can get a closed account (banned permanently).
