Tutorial on using Proxy Chains in BackTrack

Hey guys, I haven't written a tutorial in a while so I figured I'd come back with: How to use proxy chains In Backtrack.

Proxychains is a program built into backtrack that is used to cycle (TCP traffic) through proxies.

This program can be useful to:
  • Run programs through proxy servers
  • Bypass certain restrictions
  • Connectiong to a server that only accepts connectionsfrom that proxy
  • Protecting yourself

Lets get started by finding the config. file on BT

Code
root@bt:-# vim /etc/proxychains.conf

So, after doing so, we see that there are three types of chaining..
  • Dynamic_chain: This goes through the proxies in the same order you placed them in, in the configuration file, skipping the dead proxies it encounters.
  • Strict_chain: This is similar to dynamic but it will break when it encounters a non working proxy.
  • Random_chain: As the name suggests, it goes in a random order from your config. file

So, to pick one, uncomment the chain type that you want to use.
Note: If you use random_chain you'll also have to set up the cian_len parameter.

You'll see an example setup on how to input your proxies into the terminal.

So, I'll be using a few free socks4 proxy servers, so add your prxoxies to the conf file and set your chain_len parameters.

So, first we need to resolve the host name, so we do so by using
Code
proxyresolv www.website.com

Now we see the ip, now lets reach to the site through firefox, through proxy chains.

Code
proxychains firefox www.website.com

That's it! All you have to do to set up a secure proxy cycling network! Now, enjoy and use this safely!
Thanks for this man, proxies are always a pain.
Pretty straight forward. I was looking for this kind of tutorial, I didn't know this was easy like this.

Thanks!
No problem guys, and yea, anything with BT is usually pretty easy considering they give you the basic tools to do what you want!
Haven't ed in a LONG time , and I still think this could be useful, so
