Windows 10 - Discussion Thread

"Your Microsoft account says you’re under 18 years old. You have to be an adult to join the Windows Insider Program."
Yeah, thank you Microsoft -.-
This looks exactly like windows 8... except the menu bar thingy of course.
I'm downloading the tech preview (x32/x64) right now :D, can't wait to try it out <333
Yep it is available right now: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview
So... I joined the insider program, and I'll put up a video of installation and what not later.

Just got around to installing it on a VM, seems a lot like the Windows 8.1 that I have on my Laptop so far, but will need time to establish a bigger opinion on it.
I've been playing around with it, and so far, I'm not impressed.

It seems that they disabled windows snapping (I liked that feature). They still haven't made it possible to disable administrative shares without registry hacks. They still haven't included network management features that were available in 7. The Virtual Desktops feature is kinda barebones; maybe I am overlooking something, but there's no way to configure and manage the virtual desktops. In Linux, you can map specific keys to create custom short cuts to manage virtual desktops, and you can control how the virtual desktop is animated.

On the bright side, command prompt is more pimped out. I tested it, and the ctrl v shortcut works in command prompt, FINALLY!

It'd also be nice if Microsoft included a way to make a local copy or back-up all of the updates you download and install. I know you can do that with the service packs, wsus and ctupdate ..but still.

It'd be nice if they finally included a gui front-end for releasing and renewing dhcp leases. Anybody that has had to walk a client or customer through that crap over the phone knows how annoying it can get.

A few things that I still have yet to test. Mounting iso's without 3rd party software. I also want to test burning iso images to dvd and usb. Maybe we finally won't have to use 3rd party software and cli to do it.

And I also want to test how stable and fast file transfers are between different hard drives and network shares. Everything on my local network is 1000BaseT, so I'd like to see how fast 10 is compared to 7 and 8.1.

I know it's just a preview. And even though I am overall disappointed with this, it's still pretty fun to play with new operating systems and software.

They disabled snapping? This was one of the main things they were previewing, their four-way snapping work spaces.
Putting it into a VM right now. Kind of excited. Finished all of my homework, so I'm free.

Fox, can you add more information to the OP ? I'll post in the other Windows 10 threads to bring their information here, so we have all the information centralized, and not in 10,000 threads.

My era of providing technical support and malware removal on HackForums is over, so you can stop PM'ing me about it. Sorry.

I didn't download the preview yet. I'll do it overnight since it's a big ass file ...

Only 3.81 Gb, Aura.

Only took me 40 minutes. ✌ I'll update the OP with some stuff in a second. I have screenshots to add.

Either they disabled it, I downloaded a corrupt copy of 10 or my installation fucked up somehow. But I tested it, and it doesn't work for me.
