Hello
I am new to coding in "vb.net", if this is the wrong name for the language please correct me, but anyways i was wondering what are some simple things to code or some places to watch tutorials?
I have also been wondering what "Dim" and "String" mean
Thanks!

'Dim' is used to declare variables and string is text ( e.g = "Hello" )
Why don't start with dummy codes such as msgbox or try make own simple game

OP shouldn't be using msgbox. He should be using MessageBox.Show()
and he shouldn't be learning how to display a message box, he should be learning data types, input, output, them stuff.

Okay i understand Dim but i dont get string.
So could you say something like "Dim item as string"
Thank you

you use string to declare something you want as a text something like:
dim name as string = "anon"

Thank you
string = text
so like it would be
Code dim jokeh as string = "jokeh is a stringy nice person"

Thank you Yes you could put "Dim item As String" and then you could assign a certain bit of text to the string item.
E.g. "Dim item As String = "Here is some text"

Dim is the word you type when you want to declare something.
Item is the identifier.
As String means the datatype we are declaring it as.
For e.g.
Dim name As String
name = "qbob"
Or we could do.
Dim age As Integer
age = 20
There are many different types of datatypes. I sent you a PM with the link of the website I learnt from. It's very helpful.
Since you made this thread, I doubt you have real interests in learning VB.NET
Look at the Stickys, Im pretty sure some dude made a badass thread on using VB without the msdn references.

Okay thank you, so any time item is used it would be seen as "Here is some text"\
?

I could send you my class notes, but they're in portuguese.
Try out thewnewboston tutorials on youtube!
BTW, Dim is the way you declare a variable, string is a variable with blablabla chars allowed(not sure how many)...
Coder looking for partner with good ideas
PM me.

Who taught you that Dim was a variable ? Cause it's not.

What's wrong with MsgBox? Im yet to see a problem with it that would require me to use messagebox.show

msgbox is a bad habit, it's good to use msgbox to test things. With messagebox.show you can use that in a lot more ways.
