My era of providing technical support and malware removal on HackForums is over, so you can stop PM'ing me about it. Sorry.

  • When you open spam mail this sends a signal back to the sender alerting them that your account is active. This is good news for the malicious hacker or marketeer. So it's best to delete without even opening.

It's a feature called "tracking", most POP3 email clients have it, and so does web-based mail client.
Here's an example for Gmail :

Cool, interesting stuff. Thanks for the source.
Here's one that I use often.
If you want to do some clean-up in your Downloads folder, or ANY other folders, you can do it a really clean way. First of all, make sure that you send all the Documents (Word, PDF, PowerPoints, etc.) in your "Documents" folder, the music in your "Music" folder, the videos in your "Videos" folder and the pictures in the "Pictures" folder. They are there for that purpose. Then you can create folders for "Executable and Installers" (.exe, .msi, .bat, .jar, etc.), "Compressed Archives" (.zip, .rar, .7zip, etc.), Folders (where you put every folders you have) and create folders that will contains a specific type of extension or group of extensions. From there, to find all of these types at once, in the "Search area", enter the following query :
*.ext
Where "ext", is the file extension you're looking for, let's say "exe", so it'll give :
*.exe
What this query does, is to return every files that are of an executable extension (.exe), no matter their name, every ones present in the current folder. From there, press on Ctrl + A to select them all, and Ctrl + X to cut them. Go to the desired location where you want to move your files, and Ctrl + V to paste (move) them all. I swear, this takes so little time and for the results it gives, it's worth it.

Another one is mostly related to iTunes, or editing files opened in other programs. Ever noticed that you can't change information on a certain song in iTunes or such ? Maybe the file is set as "Read-only". It's simple to right-click on it, select Properties and uncheck the "Read-only" box. However, what is there's multiple files like that? Open an elevated command prompt (with Admin Rights), then enter the following command :
attrib -r C:\Path\To\Folder\*.* /s
This command will remove the "Read-only" attribute of every files contained in the folder you specified. Fast and simple.

I'll post more when I think of them.
