The problem with adium is how do you verify the secret on this client? I know it's possible on Pidgin but not in Adium afaik.

That's the problem. I've yet to figure out how to verify the secret message like you can with Pidgin. The next best thing is verifying each other's fingerprints.

I have all the exact same errors that ๖ۣۜFish had. I tried all the suggestions you gave him and i got the same errors. I'm on Mac 10.6.8 and i can't upgrade it due to an error. Halp :c

I had the "initializing stream (25%)" error, but just waited it out and after about 5 minutes or so it successfully connected.

Yeah, with the initializing stream, just give it a few minutes to synchronize. It usually does the trick.
