Can you make yourself famous?

Every so often I think about this. Because we live in special times controlled by all sorts of media. For all I know I could end up pissing up someone in Bangladesh with this post.

In theory... whats to stop someone from buying 200k+ followers (on any site twitter, pinterest, instagram, twitch, youtube).

Then going on to submitting a press release to their local news (about them self) with something like "local celebrity kid becomes instagram sensation"

Then getting interviewed on smaller youtube channels, podcasts etc

Then with that attention actually growing a real following

Then getting on a bigger TV show as a guest

Then..... you get the idea.

Not saying it needs to be exactly like this. But do you believe we live in a world where you can now just decide to make yourself famous for no reason?
Nobody gives a shit about bought followers, you can't get famous by having 200k fake accounts looking up to you.
You can just shoot up a school and everyone in the world will know your name.
Thats by far not the best way, but hey it works.

Of course fakes are useless. But wouldn't the perception of someone having 200,000+ followers without following anyone else give off the impression that they have something of value that people really like (lots of people) hence making them 'famous'?
Its an interesting thought for sure. Honstly I think that it is for sure possible in todays world. Haha if you go get famous make sure to tell everyone about your pyramid eBook and make fat stacks!

Not at all. People aren't stupid, they'd look into how you got those followers. I know some kid who bought 200k twitter followers, still a nobody.
Nobody gives a crap about the Internet social networks and how popular you are there. What matters is the real world.

100% true... how many times have you followed someone because they had a lot of subscribers.... if their content is crap it wont matter. Plus purchased followers are quite recognizable..
