Why you shouldn't use Imgur

I don't know if this is the right section, but it has something to do with graphics at least.
It should probably have been in the lounge, so more people would see it.

Okay, so recently I've been experiencing a bunch of problems regarding the quality of designs, when they are uploaded to Imgur.

Let me show you an example of one of my recent works, that imgur fucked up the quality on.

As you can see, all the red typography has gotten all grainy, and it just looks really bad, and basically the whole thread design is grainy.

So let's upload the exact same image to a different site:

Now everything is back to normal, and there's no grains or anything.

I've said it before in previous threads, but people seems to keep using Imgur for some reason. I currently use http://www.imageupload.co.uk right now for uploading everything, and it works pretty well by the looks of it above.
It's a slightly sharper image, nothing too bad though.

I think the difference is pretty noticable from these:

The issue is that your thread design file size is probably too large or you're not uploading them as a .png.

When your .png exceeds 1MB then it will compress it into a .jpg to under 1MB.

If you're using Photoshop, make sure you're saving using the 'Save as for Web' feature instead of the normal 'Save As..'
With that you can control the amount of compression of a .jpg to your desired quality while still maintaining a low file size. Or just straight up save it as a .png will slightly help with the file size anyways.

Another possible solution (though untested) is to create an account on imgur and enable this setting:

Not available for work at this time. Apologies for any inconveniences.

I do use "Save for web", but the compression I believe will also decrease the quality. I do not know if that setting you mentioned in the end helps, I haven't really seen it.

Either way, I still think the site I linked would be better to use, as you don't have to concern about all those different things.
That's a huge difference man. I stopped using imgur a long time ago, thanks for bringing it up though hopefully people see this and stop using it when they want the best quality for their pics ;)

It really fucks up the type and on areas with high contrast as you seen from some of my work. but sure thats part of compression and thats what theyre using
I don't use Imgur for anything that I'm serious about uploading (graphics, photos, etc.) I currently use a website called cubeupload which is like Imgur but 0 compression, meaning it retains all of the quality of your image.
No one uses photobucket? Never used imgur but photobucket always seemed to work well for me.

I don't use Photobucket any more, but from what I remeber it used to affect the qualit of images which I hosted on there.

Maybe I just never paid close enough attention to how it affected the pieces I uploaded. Guess I'll have to find a better image host
I just recently started using imgur solely because that's what everyone else used. Thanks for sharing, i'll go back to the OG photosharing sites.
I kind of want to set up my image uploading service.
Curious what site you use...oh...

* Eternal. Opens picture in new tab to reveal the host as http://www.imageupload.co.uk/

I would recommend http://cubeupload.com/ they have 0 compression on their images and it looks great. This is a good find OP for people who use imgur daily to upload pics.
