So I almost went to jail...

I live in the USA...

So I almost went to jail today...

This was due to an officer of the law, who took it upon himself to not follow said law...

When we were pulled over, he failed to give us a reason, and the driver failed to ask...

So, as I handed the officer my ID, I asked what the problem was...

He responded by telling me to get out of the car...

I did, and explained to him I was not being disrespectful, but only asking a reasonable question...

He told me to stop being disrespectful a started to search me...

I told him I do not consent to searches and he stopped, only to throw handcuffs on me...

He told me I was being arrested and that I was going to jail for the night...

I asked both officers for the reason I was being arrested, and reminded them they need a reason to detain me...

They gave me no answer, and threw me in the car...

I will tell you the only reason they did this was to search me, which they did after a few minutes after...

They found nothing...

Eventually they let us all go, but not before searching everyone else, who were afraid to refuse the search because of what happened to me...

I should not have to feel this unsafe in my own country...

If I have to follow the law, I expect the police to do the same...

Sadly, that is not how life is, and my only regret is not having my phone charged to record the confrontation...

Oh, I also love how he referred to me as "Mr. Lawyer" and gave me a strong lecture on respect...

And people wonder why many feel unsafe when they see police behind them...
You're lucky OP, stay out of jail that's not somewhere you wanna be
Did you get their badge numbers?
Are you sure you weren't being a dick?
Did you report it to the chief?
Did you not comply like a dick? Memory can get mixed up expecially when adrenaline starts flowing with cortisol so your brain will get all jungle up in the stress.
That is honestly sad man. The cop sounds like one of those douches who try to act intelligent and superior when they're being filmed. I hope all is well mate 🤝
May I say... You're an idiot. You're not supposed to respond. You simple say.. "have I committed any traffic offense? Is there a reason why I've been pulled over?" if they say no. You say "am I free to go?" if they attempt to make more contact you simply say "am I free to go" or you say "I reserve my right to remain silent" they'll eventually get pissed and leave.

Oh also. Tell all the passengers to not say a fucking word. Any passenger can give a cop permission to check the vehicle. You're the driver. You represent them. If they try to speak to a passenger you say "they wish to remain silent." than again you ask "am I free to go?"

Also invest in a cheap dash cam. When you get pulled over you mention " I have a dash cam. This conversation will be recorded for my own safety." if they ask you to turn it off.. you do not! As it is legal to film a police officer.

not really a sense of feeling unsafe, they're not following protocol.
you did the right thing though, ask what you're being detained for, and why you were stopped, there's no problem in that.

and why do you space every sentence once, and end each one with '...' // just curious...

That's nothing compared to what happens to others. You are lucky you didn't get tased by the police state.
I feel you op. I used to be patriotic, but as I grew older I realized the us blows.

1. No, I realized they would hate me more if I asked...

2. Positive, I was very respectful...

3. Haven't yet, oh yeah, there is none right now...

4. Promise I didn't...

This just happened a little bit ago...

That is what I asked...

"What is the problem officer?"

Then he got me out of the car...

I know about filming too...

Sadly my phone was dead...

I think that by not following the proper procedures, you are at risk of harm. If you have done nothing wrong or a suspect of doing something wrong, you should not be forced into the back of a car. Kind of sounds like kidnapping, huh?
The law is what it is, they write the book as they go sometimes, there are good authority and bad authority, The thing that fucks the bad ones is someone like you that decides to take it to a higher end and keep fighting till something is done, get noticed by the media and what not and you would be golden, But at least they didn't take you in, well they really couldn't if they had no reason to, and yes they have to have a reason to search you, they have violated the amendment 4, they would have to tell you why, you can even deny the reason of giving them your id although that may not be a good way of going about it as they would take you in to finger print and find out that way or try to anyways and it will end up being a bigger deal then it's worth.

But I do see your point. We the people that pay taxes is the reason they all have job's and they need to uphold that up to our standards that we have put in place not what they think they can do
A mind is a like a parachute, if it's not open, it's not working
Hey man we're all just talking monkeys on a floating rock in space, shit ain't that serious.
Wow, and I thought cops in Australia were corrupted...
I have a hell of a story XD
I was sitting out front of walmart and a homeless guy came and sat next to me with his dog. Not 5 minutes after he sat down a cop car came and sat accross the parking lot watching us. Then a Animal Services police van came too. After about 30 minutes the homeless guy left and not even 5 minutes after he left the cop car came up to me and he said "Let me see your ID" I asked him what I did wrong and he said "If you refuse to show me your ID I will put you in cuffs and at that point you will be resisting arrest and you will be brought to jail for breaking a city ordinance" Little did he know I had my spy glasses on and I switched it on about 20 minutes before hand. (While the homeless guy was still here) Yea so I ended up catching him on camera breaking the law that he is supposed to be enforcing. Lets just say I put the video on a flash drive, showed my parents, and they had some fun with the chief of police.

truuuuuu.

Also remember whenever you threaten a police officers control of a situation that it demasculates him, which leads to them thinking that they have to reassert their dominance when in all actuality they shouldn't feel like they are dominant anyway. I think that is the current problem with today's police force. This all happens because they don't realize what the person is telling them is the true law, because they are required to remember these things unless something happens that makes them.

They should force these meathead cops to do a mandatory test every month then post their results in the newspaper. Maybe that will make them less likely to do stupid shit like this, and maybe it will also make people more secure with their local police force knowing that they know the law.
