How to make GIFs with After Effects & Photoshop

Creating GIFs with After Effects & Photoshop

I wrote this little guide for people wondering how others are making the slick, "flashy" looking signatures. This is an easy way to make a nice looking signature, as long as you know your way around After Effects that is. 😝)
Also, took off the spoiler tag for now, if it becomes too annoying to scroll through it, i'll add it back. ;)

I was wondering why I couldn't figure this out. I thought it was a guide on how to make something like that in AE when that is just how to turn it into a gif.

Can you make one on how to make the project in AE?
I have never used the program, and really would like to learn more about it.
Thanks.
I'm still learning. Im basically just messing with effects. But gimme a couple days and I'll try to see what i can do.

oh yeah, and I would have to make a video for after effects. There's a lot of stuff you can do in there, and taking screen shots gets old after a while. If I can get my Youtube channel info back, ill start making videos again :)
There is actually a way to directly export it as a gif.
Gotta reboot AE myself to remember where it is but its hella faster tbh.

edit: AE keeps crashing reinstalling now.

edit2: seems like the option was removed in CS5 64bit damn :l
Yeah I believe I remember that option as well Ryuuji. : \
Thanks for this well explained and like the effect

No problem, glad to help. Theres a lot of cool things you can do in AE, this is just the basics. :)
Actually, there are a lot more ways to do this, and I think you choose the most complicated one.
A little help from my side..
I save my projects not as PNG Sequence, but Quicktime, it helps with the load time and it's easier to import into Photoshop.
From Photoshop, you can choose File > Import > Video Frames to Layer or something like that and you're done. Just save it.

Not saying the tutorial is bad or something, just though I'd point out another method for those who can't go with the first one. :)

Yeah, notice how I put two methods? The first one (that I said I wouldnt cover) is what you're talking about, but for some reason, no all versions of photoshop have that feature (mine being one of them). Some say it's the extended version that has it, but I have extended so I'm not sure.

EDIT: nvm that must be a different method, but does that method cause any issues with quality? Also, wouldnt rendering it as pictures be quicker than as a video? I may be wrong, but I remember video clips taking a lot longer to render.

I'll see if I can make a short tutorial on how to do that using your method and give you credit for the idea. :)

Not really, you don't lose quality, as far as I can tell, from my projects. It loads quite fast to be honest. Now I am not completely sure which method is faster, mine or yours, cause I've never used your method. But you can try and tell us. ✌

Yeah definitely, just reply to this thread again after this post saying 'cool' or something, so when I get on tomorrow I'll remember haha :D
This is pretty good, seems like I need to get my hands on this software will use your guide, hopefully I can figure it out... I hope you dont mind me asking about a few areas if I get stuck or confused :)

Not at all, just shoot me a pm. It's just Adobe products, you can buy them on adobe's website. There's also the Creative Cloud version that you can pay monthly if you don't want to fork out that chunk of money initially. :)
Thanks for the tutorial, didn't expect to find this here :D

I'm assuming you need to download Quicktime to render with the codec, which is something I won't do, but thanks for the info.

To OP:
Thanks for the tutorial, awesomely detailed and pretty simple overall (just a little tedious). And like everyone has already said, there are a few other ways to do this, some might be easier. If you could test which options are better and make a tutorial for the easiest, that'd be cool.
