Japan's Labor Pains
The Japanese government is under siege by people around the world for their recent introduction and promotion of state-sponsored apprenticeship programs. The programs are designed to bring in new workers to Japan, a country struggling to deal with a 'greying population' crisis. The program's initial intent was to recruit workers and in return provide the workers with knowledge they can use to benefit their lives in their home country once their apprenticeship expires; however, this is not the case. Sexual harassment, physical abuse, extortion, and blackmail is ultimate fate of these some 150,000 workers, the majority of which hail from China. But perhaps the biggest issue people have is the use, or rather, the abuse of these workers in the construction of the Olympic stadium planned for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games. Ippei Torii, an active proponent of this program, says that "The Olympics are based on the notion of fair play. It is written in its constitution that playing sports is a human right. To have an Olympic stadium built by interns instead of fairly treated workers is in violation of the very spirit of the Olympics."
Japan's Net Fasting Camp
The Japanese government has recently completed their conduction of a test run of their "Net Fasting Camp", which is aimed at keeping Internet-addicted teenagers away from smartphones and computers. A nation-wide survey found that middle-schoolers spend an average of two hours and forty-seven minutes online, and high schoolers spend an average of four or so. Ten participants, ranging from middle schoolers to university students, who spent an average of ten hours online, visited the National Chuo Youth Friendship Center in located in Gotemba. As they stayed there, they were not allowed to use any form of electronic device with a connection to the Internet. Results found that the average amount of time spent on the Internet from participants within this group dropped from the usual ten to approximately 6.8. Three out of seven of the students, used to playing hooky so that they can play games, returned attending school on a regular basis. As a result, their grades increased; however, it's not to say the camp was entirely successful. Though some participants did make changes to their lifestyle, some reverted to their old habits. Regardless, such amiable results show hope in the now Internet-addicted youth of first world countries.
Should others follow in Japan's footsteps and launch their own "Net Fasting Camp?"
This Crazy Bridge in Japan Looks More Like a Terrifying Roller Coaster
Woah. Now that's a scary bridge to travel on.
Introducing the Eshima Ohashi bridge in Japan, a mile long bridge with a height of 144 feet and a 5.1% and 6.1% grade on each end, its grade is not that surprising. Apparently bridges in Germany have grades of 7% and 8%; however, what does make it remarkable is the length of its main span, 250 meters. The bridge is currently ranked the third largest in the world. It was designed to links two cities thus two prefectures: the Matsue (Shimane Prefecture) and Sakaiminato (Tottori Prefecture), while letting large ships from Lake Nakaumi pass underneath it.. Despite its function though, it still looks like it'd be one hell of a nauseating drive.
Perhaps new drivers might want to stay away from passing through this, for now...

There will fully-voiced character stories, cross-play, character-specific trials and much more. The new "challenge" feature has many players excited to test their might. Basically, players will have to square off against deadly foes with the added trouble of detrimental battle conditions. For example, you won't be able to jump or you may even lose health continuously from the start of the battle. Don't have a PS4 or PS Vita? Don't worry! Lab Zero is considering releasing all of these features as DLC. Do we have any Skullgirls fans in Anime Adventures? Sound off below and let us know what you think!

No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Starting with this issue we'll take a look at one anime each week, trying to find the answer to the question that is the most important of them all: Who is best girl?
We thought that, after seeing what atrocious waifus some of you people decide to pick, it'd be important to include a section in the AA weekly that serves as a shining beacon in the deep, dark sea of anime girls. Therefore, angel. (who will join me in future issues) and I (iMew) will share our thoughts on the topic each week. We'll also be looking for suggestions of anime that you guys want us to take a look at, so feel free to shoot either of us a PM!
Well then, with no further ado, let's take a look at To Love-Ru's best girl:
Konjiki no Yami / Golden Darkness
I'll assume that the first thing that most of you are surprised about is that it actually isn't Momo. While I do agree that she has her strong points (especially during Darkness), I believe that Yami is superior overall. Most importantly, she's so adorable.
She's a dutiful girl who never really gives up on her mission. However, she values her own feelings (which she often doesn't realize herself) and grows attached to all of the characters, especially Mikan. That leads to her going to great lengths to save her friends, even her "target". One of her best traits is that she always prioritizes those dear to her in case of conflict, even if she has to go against the very nature of her existence.
Throughout the series she learns to be grateful and more open towards others, becoming more and more human in the process. She starts to love earth, its inhabitants, taiyaki and develops a desire to protect all of it. She also wants to learn more about it and therefore spends most of her time reading books.
While To Love-Ru has multiple strong contenders (namely Momo and Yui), I think that when it comes down to it, Yami is simply best girl. Don't agree? Fight me.
That'll be it for the first edition of Waifu of the Week. Make sure to let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions!

Synopsis
Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by titans. Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of titans.
Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a titan in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a colossal titan that appears out of thin air and smaller titans begin to flood the city causing chaos and devouring everyone they saw. Eren vows that he will murder every single titan and take revenge for all of mankind.
Characters
Eren Yeager
Eren is Shingeki no Kyojin's protagonist. His adoptive sister, Mikasa, notes on numerous occasions that he acts on impulse without thinking things through, and she often pulls/carries/throws him when he starts fighting with others to protect him from himself. Along with Mikasa, he tends to spend his free time with their mutual friend, Armin.
His father is a doctor (whom is well respected by Hannes and potentially many more) whilst his mother is a housewife.
Mikasa Ackerman
Mikasa is Eren's adoptive sister and mutual childhood friend of Armin. Mikasa shares an unbreakable bond with Eren following events in their past, and rushes to protect him whenever he is in danger. Mikasa possesses impressive fighting skill and strength even as a child.
As a teen, Mikasa is considered a genius among all the army trainees and is incredibly skilled at combat and agility. She constantly worries for Eren's well-being and lives to protect him.
Tails' Opinion
So I'll start off with this...Attack on Titan has an interesting concept and the story may be the strong point of the show but that doesn't go without saying that there were clear faults in the execution of it all. That's not to say that the story was bad, just poorly made. Now, I didn't read the manga but I can tell you what made me frustrated with the anime. I got the same feeling from Attack on Titan that I got from Log Horizon, frustration by the obvious milking of every episode. It sets a pace for the first half or two thirds of the show and then in the home stretch when it's supposed to be at its climax, slight fillers and stupid cliffhangers, every episode for the last 6 or 7. I watched this show while it was airing and it was the first time I had the thought enter my head that I will never watch an airing show again, Log Horizon then pushed me over that edge. Honestly it did get to the point though where I stopped watching it as it aired for another 2 months until it was finished. I hated the feeling of watching a 24 minute show, where there was about 15 minutes of filler, 5 minutes of real episode or of story, and then 4 minutes of setting up the cliffhanger. I give the story a 6/10.
The characters are definitely the weak point of the series. The main character, Eren, is really generic and literally nothing sets him apart from the cookie cutter shounen main character. He's thirsty for revenge, turns out he sucks and is weak but then comes to find he's stronger than everyone because of some Naruto-like technicality. Mikasa was an enjoyable character because she is super strong and always reliable. The only disappointment was that she doesn't do anything unexpected, she fits the role she is meant to and nothing more. No big change, no big surprise, no progression, just meh but she is pretty sexy though, so much "plot". Armin is just annoying. What a stupid character have in a show. He's like the wannabe shounen main character but he just didn't quite make it to the spotlight and was given a lesser role but was cut from the same cloth as Eren. The supporting cast is pathetic, they do absolutely nothing aside of a few minor details for a majority of the show. The background characters are honestly more respectable than the supporting cast. The supporting characters don't actually contribute anything until about past halfway through and even then there is only like 2 supporting characters that even matter, other than that the rest are just there. I give the characters an 4/10.
The art was interesting. At first I hated it outright, nothing about it appealed to me. I hated the pseudo comic book style they went with and even now I'm not the biggest fan, I had to get used to it just to tolerate it but even with that said I cant deny the strong artwork that's been done. The backgrounds were pretty decent, the intricate details of the structures and action scenes were good. The only thing lacking was real detail on the characters. Emotions were portrayed well but that's about it, action and emotion was all you really got on the characters. The sheer detail in the backgrounds, action scenes, and structures carried the show through mediocre downtimes and empty space. I give the art a 7/10.
So it's a typical shounen. It doesn't exactly fundamentally make a great show and it's got a lot of downsides and negatives. So with all that said, does it redeem itself in the most important category? Yeah, kinda. If you can get past the glaring faults then you will have no problem enjoying this, maybe even in one sitting just grinding it out. It's honestly a pretty good show with good action, a pretty fast and enjoyable pace (most of the show), and hardly anything to really get bored of. So if you can ignore the faults, it makes for a fun experience. In terms of enjoyment I give it a 8/10.
Programmargorp's Opinion
Well, seeing as you guys absolutely adored my review last week, we’re following up this week quite strongly with Shingeki no Kyojin, or Attack on Deus Ex. Shingeki no Deus Ex is a series by Isayama Hajime who, surprisingly enough has not done anything of note besides Shingeki no Deus Ex. Following a successful advertisement campaign by Wit Studio and their subsequent corner cutting (which fans will tell you totally did not happen), the series hitched a first class seat on the train of hype where the engine exploded and transformed into a rocket, blasting the whole thing off into the galaxy of hype. Seriously, if you’re reading this and you haven’t heard of the series, get out.
Now.
Shingeki no Deus Ex, A.K.A Giant people eating people for fun is a series about your average idealistic dumbass protagonist who decides that he wants to save the world after a titan attack. Unfortunately for him, he sucks at absolutely everything and requires his adopted sister cough Mum #1 cough to clean up after him all the time. Spoiler (Click to View)Hence, we follow Eren on his adventures of sucking and eventually finding out that he can transform into one of those giant things that he hates.
Perhaps expectedly from a uber hyped up series, the series features a pretty clichéd and dull cast featuring Eren, our main protagonist and idealistic dumbass. Mikasa, Eren’s adopted sister and Mum #1. Armin, Eren’s best friend (who was confirmed by the author to be female at one point) and Mum #2. I don’t think I need to say anything more.
Beyond the fact that Wit pretty much reused half the titan cels throughout the series, the art in general felt unrefined and crude, which in reality isn't as bad as that sentence made it sound. The art style, although kind of crappy, fit the overall feel of the series quite well. In addition to this, the animation of the series was top notch and deserving of praise.
So to answer the most important question of this review, should you watch Deus ex on Attack?
The answer: No, although I doubt you’ll actually listen to me this once.
Chances are, you've already watched this series, and if you haven’t, someone at some point would have told you to watch this. The only reason you might consider watching this show is either for its action, or to see how far a rocket propelled hype train can take you into the next level of the galaxy of hype. There are better series to waste your time on than this.
Tails' Rating 5/10

Title - Horimiya Title in Japanese - ホリミヤ Genre(s) - Comedy, Romance, School, Shounen, Slice of Life Chapters currently released - 50 Author(s) - HERO Artist(s) - Hagiwara, Daisuke Released - Oct 18, 2011 to ? Status - Ongoing
Synopsis
Hori may seem like a normal teenage girl, but she's a completely different person after school. In her workaholic parents' absence, Hori has been like a parent for her little brother since she was young herself. Between taking care of her brother, feeding them both, and housework, she doesn't have much time for a usual teenage social life. One day, she meets someone else who does not present his true self at school: a quiet, glasses-wearing boy called Miyamura. She'd assumed he was bookish, and possibly an otaku, but Hori couldn't have been more wrong. Outside of school, Miyamura is a friendly guy with many piercings, and he's not very good at academics. Now the two of them have someone with whom they can share both halves of their lives!
Characters
Yep she looks great alongside the new theme.
Kyouko Hori (堀 京子)
Hori has a slim figure and has long brown hair. When she is out of school, she dresses casually and ties her hair up in a bun. Hori is a very energetic person. She is popular and always creates a happy atmosphere around herself. She is a very hardworking person, and even though she has chores around her house to do, she does well in school and scores over 90 in exams. Her parents are always busy, so in order to take care of her brother, she has to return straight home after school every day and take care of the house. She's the kind of girl who does not want to show to others her vulnerable side. So sometimes she just doesn't express her feelings and suffers alone. She thinks of Miyamura as a very good friend, always helping her and going over to her house to help take care of her brother Sota.
I really should have picked an image where he looked cooler...
Izumi Miyamura (宮村 伊澄)
Miyamura is often mistaken for an otaku for his sneaky character. The truth behind his long hair is to hide his piercings, and he has a lot of tattoos. This is a secret that only Hori and Ishikawa know. Izumi is a very thoughtful kid. He is a person who looks weak but is very strong.
Vandie’s Opinion
When I first saw Horimiya, I got rather interested. It looked like an interesting spin on the generic hidden life love story. Unfortunately when I actually started reading, as much as I liked the characters and the story, I felt like it was going at a snail's pace. I found myself getting ever so slightly bored and at a few points putting the manga down and going to do other things. This is sad as the story definitely has potential and had it been a bit faster paced with less useless scenes then it would have been perfect. The general premise was that Izumi is perceived to be a 'dark' shut-in otaku and Kyouko is thought to be a care free girl with loads of friends, however they both have a real personality that they don't want to let out. Izumi with his tattoos and piercings and Kyouko essentially raising her brother due to her workaholic parents. It truly is a slice of life with no stupid or unlikely things happening (I'm looking at you, Kaichou wa maid-sama!) but the problem is that because of this plus and the fact that the pacing is wrong, it makes the whole thing boring. Most of it feels less like a story and more like watching someone with a slightly abnormal life go about their day-to-day activities. Then there is the romance...unlike other romance manga where the characters slowly become more engrossed in each others lives until they inevitably become romantically related, Horimiya has the characters jump from not even knowing anything about each other to having them act like they are already going out. Then after 20 or so chapters of thinking "What? How are they not going out while acting like this?..." they finally get together.
Despite all its flaws though, I did still like the story. Just not as much as I have enjoyed some others. Due to this, I will be giving Horimiya a slightly better than average 6.5/10
The characters are probably the best bit about the whole damn thing. They act like most real people (one way in front of others but are actually completely different). I like this as it is not so often explored in a realistic way. Normally all you get is people having a strange job or acting rich/poor while being the opposite. In this however they are truly hiding themselves. Kyouko Hori is a heavily popular girl with outstanding grades. She never really goes out with friends though, due to her workaholic parents basically letting her raise her younger brother. She helps people with their work in school to the point of making herself ill because she refuses to let people know how she is at home. Outside of school, she never wears makeup and and is always trying to help her younger brother. Izumi Miyamura on the other hand acts like a dark and somewhat creepy, quiet kid who is always working at school. He is thought to be an otaku and is always in his full winter uniform. Outside of school however, he ties his dark hair back and shows off his many piercings. His many tattoos are also more liberally shown by his short sleeved attire while he is strangely sub par in his academic performance. This difference between how they act in and outside of school makes the characters highly interesting. They are unlike others because of their funny quirks that you can see is holding the two together. The character development is superb and as such... The characters get a well deserved9/10
When I get to the art, I always feel like I have nothing to say as usually most manga from around the same time will look roughly the same. This is very much the case with Horimiya as the art is really not anything special. It's arguably quite a bit better than average but is still not as good as anything that I have said has "amazing art". The characters are drawn rather nicely and most tiles have nice backgrounds but I feel like the art is missing something that could just tip it into the brilliant region and because of this... The art gets a nicely done8/10
Overall I'm going to say that Horimiya is definitely something unique that I would recommend reading, however be warned that it sometimes feels rather tedious and is difficult to read for any prolonged period of time. The main problem I have with it is the pace, I feel that its completely off. The manga is however still being written so it is possible that it will be remedied in later chapters but I don't think that I'm going to hold my breath. Horimiya receives an overall rating of7.8/10
Thanks for reading my section again guys, I know that a lot of you enjoy reading AA weekly so I request that if you can, do send a PM to me requesting a manga as I feel kind of stuck when it comes to picking one out at the beginning of each week.
Kieru: First up, what is your all-time favorite series? Doesn't matter what medium, it could be an anime or manga.
Tarn: I would have to go with the manga Yotsubato!. It is the only manga I read but I really enjoy it. It is a nice breakaway from all the not so innocent things in life.
Kieru: I've seen that series around, it seems like a great read! Next up, how long have you been a member of AA?
Tarn: It has been a couple of years actually. I have been on and off and I'm currently trying to make a comeback haha.
Kieru: I hope the comeback goes well! I really enjoy your posts. Along with this, who is your favorite member from the board?
Tarn: I would have to say Montie Kin & Happeh. Happeh has always been a name I recognized whenever I came back to HF, I always feel very comfortable harassing them over PMs when I am bored as well.
Kieru: Happeh's always been quite a character, he's a pretty wonderful guy. Now about the beginnings, what first brought you into the Japanese culture?
Tarn: I remember starting with an interest in the language a very long time ago. I really thought it was amazing and I would look at pictures of Japan very often. When I really got into computers though and started using HF I found myself in the AA section often and began watching anime. After I started watching anime I started to fall out of interest with the culture and began just enjoying anime, until recently when I became and East Asian studies minor.
Kieru: Studying such things sounds really fun! Speaking of the culture, have you tried Japanese sweets? If you have, what would be your most memorable?
Tarn: I have only eaten pocky haha but I love it a lot. I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it but if I walk past it at the store I will usually pick up a box or two.
Kieru: Pocky is always one of my favorites too! Now for a few more anime-related questions. If you had to choose one character as your favorite female protagonist, who would you choose?
Tarn: I would say Yui from Angel Beats. I usually find that I like darker characters more but Yui is punk and cute. Most people might find her a bit annoying but I was able to look past it for this great anime.
Kieru: Yui was a total cutie, I agree. Speaking of characters, who would you say is the most badass protagonist?
Tarn: Makoto Itou from School Days. That guy was a dickhead, but he was a badass dickhead.
Kieru: Agh, I haven't gotten around to watching the series yet, I really need to. Also, we know you like to have some fun and have a few drinks, so have you had any crazy experiences on AA after a few drinks?
Tarn: I have the tendency to rant and especially so after drinking. Posting CLANNAD hate is one of my favorite rants and so I was very pleased to wake up to the thread I made bashing CLANNAD and people reacting exactly the way I hoped for, allowing me to reply with more hate for CLANNAD.
Kieru: Some like to party a bit more than others! Also, after my jimmies were done being rustled, I admitted that thread was pretty funny.
Kieru: I really had fun doing this interview! Thanks for everything!
New Graphics and Another Push Forward
As you can probably tell just by looking we have had a design overhaul with new headers. The headers were designed by the great Insomnolence and they suit the overall theme of the news better; also it keeps things new and fresh! We have added a new section and I expect to add a couple more to that list so that we can really start getting some content going. Thank you as always guys for your comments and support and let me know what you think of the news. Any feedback helps!
My housemate and I got the original Gundam game. However it was totally in Japanese and took FRIGGIN AGES to work out what was what. We were still learning basic(ish) things months down the track. Was a blast though!

That sounds like it would of been hilarious if you were drunk.
That bridge looks a lot steeper than it really is lol.
And thank you for putting that YouTube channel under music news in this weeks article.
I had found one of her sword art online videos a long time ago, but couldn't remember the channel name.
