Just wondering what it would take to make a google authentication like application in visual basic

Ive been playing around with using Time servers to get the time (for consistency between different computers/applications)

but just wanting other peoples thoughts or takes on this?

you can do your own system , i did my own Auth System using SMS Clickatell , + make remember me with some encrypted registry , everything will go perfect , btw i like sms then google auth

You could base the authentication code generated on the current time + the user's name/email.
Although I'm not sure how you'd be able to prevent people just making their own generators for the authentication code...

a shared secret between the server and application
then that generates a code unique to the person (probably bruteforceable but meh)

then add that with username/password auth also and should be relatively secure

Just not sure on a consistent way to get it based off the current time, because systems will have different times so if it is to work offline (like i want it to) it will need to be +-1 second for accuracy
