Staying safe with Bald Cat

So long story short this is going to be a pretty simple guide for staying safe when browsing the internet. A lot of people overlook this because they aren't really concerned when browsing. Internet safety is very important to me and I think it's safe to assume other people as well. I'm just going to help some of you take the best steps in securing your information and keeping you safe from the "1337 h4ck3rz" on the internet.

1. Staying secure - Basic virus removal tips

Staying secure is actually a lot easier than most people think for many reasons. Let me break it down for you guys. Staying secure is as easy as having an anti virus, firewall, and a malware removal tool. Here are some of my recommendations. Again, you don't have to use these, these are just some of my personal favorites.

Antivirus: Avast! - It's free and it's not a bad antivirus. 7/10
Firewall: Personally I keep mine disabled. I don't need it.
Malware removal tool: Malwarebytes - It's a good program and you can get keys for it all over Google.

Now yeah, I've been ratted before and it sucks. Honestly I think it was good for me. I watched some friends, those of which I am very thankful for, remove the virus' from my computer. It taught me a lot of valuable skills that I will be using if God forbid I am ratted in the future. I'm going to share those with you.

• Making use of Task Manager

In the image above you can see all the processes I currently have running. None of them are malicious. Say you have a random program running and you have no idea what it is? Follow these steps.

1. Read the service description

The image below will be of skype. You can see the tabs above the process. They are in order as follows: Image(Service)Name, User name(Your pc name). CPU, Memory, Description

You want to be paying attention to the description if you think you have a malicious software. Usually RATs have a fake or no description at all.

2. Right click > Open file location

Every program that isn't a rat will open in their location which they were installed. Refer to the picture below.

Once you open the file location this will come up. Pay close attention to the 3 underlined things. Date Modified (Changed or installed) - Type - Size.

The date installed is a big red flag, as well as the application size.

RAT stubs are generally small in size. Usually under 200mb.

• Checking your startup

Open "Msconfig" and go to "Startup"

EVERY PROCESS that will start when your computer turns on will be listed here. This is where you will find if you have a malicious program or RAT on your computer. The program will probably be stub.exe, client.jar, or something along those lines. Although most common RATs now have a feature in which you can name your stub. So the stub can also be called "ThisIsARat.exe." You have to make sure that nothing is suspicious about the program. If the program is on your startup it WILL be in your TASK MANAGER so you can trace the file location. Sometimes there will be hidden folders so make sure you enable hidden folders.

2. Staying Anonymous - To an extent

Now most people can't be 100% anonymous and you're just going to have to deal with that. I'm just going to give you a few ways to decrease your chances of being "doxed by 1337 h4ck3rz."

1. Don't post your information anywhere unnecessary. What I mean is don't go posting all of your information on forums, unsecured websites, chat rooms, etc.

-Some of the shit you probably shouldn't post-

1. Skype name (up to you)
2. Last name
3. Phone number
4. Address especially
5. Family members names
6. Town/city

-What you can get from the information above-

1. Ip address > All of the information above
2. Address
3. Phone number
4. Social security number
5. Tax returns
6. Bank statements
7. ISP account information
8. Bank account number/access

The list goes on.

3. Conclusion

I really hope this helps you guys. It took me quite awhile to write it because I was trying to add as much information as I possibly could and I was watching Netflix. If anyone has any further questions then just pm me. I would be more than happy to help anyone who has questions. Below this I'll be linking other helpful tutorials.

Check your startup and see if any of those are there. If one of them is then yes, it's a RAT.
You can easily modify the information displayed in taskmgr and msconfig.
Thank you for this useful thread, it's helped me alot with my anonymity.
