[Release]Real Time Currency Converter [4 CURRENCIES]

Hello there 🤝,

I am back with one more project to share today, it's nothing really special but a few people might find it useful :)

The rates come from Google Finance, so they are accurate. There's no need for an API key, they are scrapped from the website directly.

It has an automatic refresher, you just set the time and turn it on.

Additionally, after the first refresh (on second refresh and later on) values get colors depending on the rates before/after refresh. If the ratio was raised up, it will go green, if the ratio was lowered, it will go red until the next refresh. This is to indicate whether the value was raised or fell.

The source files are full except of that it doesn't have an automatic updater/updater at all. I'll be coding this in my own executable so I can share it with people who would like to use it but they don't have the knowledge to edit source files coded in VB.NET

Or I can just go to Google and convert the currency I need? Realistically no one converts that many currencies at once.

Hello,

It's always in your desktop, one click and there you have it.

It's useful for those who exchange, sell or want to know about the recent/current rates. I have set it to scrap for BTC, USD, EUR, GBP.. the most used currencies in hackforums (with exception of; omc, ltc, dash, and rupees)

I just find it a lot more convenient to press 1 button and get the rate :)

After all, the source code is given to everyone so they could use it as they wish 🤝

Thanks for your feedback though, I appreciate it.

This layout would be alot better compared to your current

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. You are free to design - re-design the layout as you wish. The source is available for download.

Hope you like the project.
Hello,

Bringing this up in case someone wants to have it. 🤝
A couple of things:
-Make it async
-WebClient would work fine here and it would use half the code
-Make a function for your requests, you have the same code many times.
-Use regex to find the currency in the html (not necessary)
Lotta blood to let, peace to make, give a fuk about a check
Appart from avoiding .PerformClick, that's just awful.

Hello,

This one along with the screenshot tool were the first ones I ever coded! Haha 🤗

I just found them in my HDD (VB08). I copied the whole source / pasted into VS2012 (Although I could convert/upgrade but I didn't wanted it like that) and fixed a few errors that came up.

I'm not actively coding anymore due to real life things that take up a lot of my time.. but giving me this feedback you make me want to start re-coding them!

Thank you! 🤝

Hello,

Yes, I know. This is why I put it as open source. As I said in the previous post of mine.. this one & more project which I have shared were my very first ones that I actually -coded / modified-. Still I remember how happy I was back then I was saw this working even if it's (not that much) badly coded. There's always time for improvements but I don't have it.

Thank you for your feedback though! 🤝

I was going to simply agree but I got a little carried away...

Code
Public Class Currency
    Private _r As New Regex("<span class=bld>(\d\.?\d+)")

Public Function FetchRate(c As Conversion) As String
Const url As String = "http://www.google.com/finance/converter?a=1&from={0}&to={1}"

      Using wc As New WebClient
Dim src As String = wc.DownloadString(String.Format(url, Split(c.ToString(), "to")))
      Return _r.Match(src).Groups(1).Value
      End Using
    End Function

    Public Enum Conversion
      BTCtoEUR
      USDtoEUR
      GBPtoEUR
    End Enum
End Class
