Introduction
- MyBB is a free and open-source Forum Software which was developed in 2002 and finally released in late 2003. MyBB is among the best free forum software to use. Previously MyBB has been known as both MyBBoard and MyBulletinBoard. MyBB is commonly used across many very big forums on the web to date and is also the same forum software that Hack Forums uses itself. In this thread we will be covering all the Versions and their Updates. We will take a step back in time to the very beginning and work our way to the present and then even take a glimpse into the future with MyBB 2.0 just around the corner. Hopefully if you never liked MyBB as a forum software or weren't sure by the time you read this you may just be amazed with the ongoing development and just how far MyBB has come as a software and how far their Staff/Developers have come too.
Please note that the release section will only cover the initial release and not the entire documented history (1.4.1 and 1.4.2 etc) thank you and enjoy the read.

MyBB Series
MyBB 1.0- On December 9th 2005 an announcement thread on the MyBB Community Forums appeared from the owner Chris Boulton stating that MyBB 1.0 was finally here after many beta releases in the attempt to gather all bug reports and get them removed. The software had went from beta into the stable release. This was the first version of MyBB as you can guess but of course there were a lot of bugs in the system. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot saved from the original release to provide here.
MyBB 1.1- MyBB 1.0 was short lived when MyBB 1.1 was released on March 9th 2006, only 90 days after 1.0 had been released. The life of MyBB 1.0 was only 3 months but with the release of 1.1 there were many changes made when the version upgrade occurred. The version change was mostly built from Security updates within MyBB but at the same with over 20 of the files were changes as well. This was the new beginning of MyBB as 1.1 had many releases in the future.
MyBB 1.2- MyBB 1.2 was finally released in September, the 2nd of 2006 to be exact. This was a major upgrade compared to any other before it with coding standards being increased like they had never been before. This was the first version of MyBB we seen a lot of the features that members requested being added to the software by default. The 1.2 release was the game changer for MyBB because the members had a bigger say and also this was one of the most sable built releases. All the changes that were made will be visible below in the upgrade section of this thread.
MyBB 1.4- Before allowing members to get the released files for the 1.4 series upgrade MyBB decided to upgrade their forums to 1.4 and allow the members to get a feel for the new changes. This was done on June 9th 2008. On June 27th 2008 MyBB made an announcement they were looking for more people to apply for Beta Testing, this may have been the case because they had patched more than 500 bugs already and were wanting to get as many fresh faces on the scene to try get any bugs that were missed patched. The release of 1.4 finally came on August 3rd 2008.
MyBB 1.6- MyBB finally had a massive user base and with the idea of 1.6 about to be released they offered the Beta files up for people to test before initial release. They had no implemented a bug tracker in the website so that it was easier for members to report bugs, the Beta release was made on May 16th 2010. The time for the official release was August 3rd 2010 Exactly two years after the release of the 1.4 series. This upgrade included more than 40 new features being added to MyBB. MyBB had already as a team developed a lot of themes and plugins and had them on their modification site so members could easily keep their forums flowing.
MyBB 1.8- MyBB 1.8 wasn't expected as soon as they confirmed it was already in development on April 1st 2012, the section it was under was titled "MyBB 1.8 – The Bridge to 2.0" this immediately told all current users that the next version on it's way was going to be 2.0. This was to be the first release of MyBB that wouldn't have as many changes as the previous versions had such as 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6. June 1st 2014 was the release of the first Beta for 1.8 and members were advised not to run it on a live forum. A month later on July 1st 2014 Beta 2 came out with the same rules as the first and finally Beta 3 was out on July 21st 2014. MyBB finally made the release of 1.8 on September 1st 2014 which gave 1.8 a whole new section on their site for resources.
MyBB 2.0- On March 9th 2015 MyBB published on their blog "Currently in pre-alpha, MyBB 2.0 is the long awaited upcoming major version of the open source MyBB forum software." On the blog there is a total of 5 Development articles as of right now and an entire section dedicated to MyBB 2.0 for discussions and what will be added etc from the suggestions given by the members. I've made some suggestions too that are going to be in 2.0.

This may come as a surprise but we have come to the decision that the new Mods Site will only contain 1.8 compatible plugins and themes. Worry not for the old Mods Site will still be accessible at mods.mybb.com, as it is being archived for a short while allowing for the continued use of 1.6 resources. Developers will, therefore, have to manually port their resources from 1.6 to 1.8 in order for them to be approved on the new Mods Site."

MySQL Improved aka MySQLi is genuinely better, go with that.
It is a good thread listing all MyBB related improvements.
Good work
