[Debate] Do you think Batch is a programming language or a coding/scripting language?

Hello,

This is my first post in this forum in quite a while, and I decided to take a visit and I noticed some really LQ threads, so I decided to open some discussion and activity.

Do you think Batch is a programming language or a coding/scripting language?

That is all.

I think Batch is a coding language, and a scripting language, but not a programming language?

What are your thoughts on this?
A scripting language is a programming language

Personally I think a SCRIPT is something that is interpreted by another specific program and it performs actions from it, like the program follows the script and does stuff, like an actor follows a script and does stuff.

a PROGRAMMING language is something that is compiled, to make a PROGRAM, at least in my mind :)

I consider it a Macro language like AutoIt. I guess it would be a scripting language because people say "Batch Script" where "Batch Programs" are very long Batch Scripts that usually do more than one thing.
It's definitely a scripting language, anyone who disagrees is a beginner in any type of programming.
A script is like a special story that details characters and dialogue rather than overtly expressing plot, and is used in the creation of plays at the theatre.
A programme on the other hand is basically the leaflet thing that the usher hands to you at the theatre - so you have a sort of itinerary of when different parts of the play will occur.

Glad we got that settled.. :>
Its classed as a scipting language due it being a way of running command lines.

I agree with the others, it's a scripting language.
Batch is based on scripts, programming does not follow scripts

It is definitely a script language for me.

Why?

Here's my list:

# It is an interpreted high-level language
# It's built for people who have little experience with programming and is mainly used for quick tasks
# It's definitely NOT what you'd use to build large programs like an OS or compiler

And yet, that's exactly the kind of shit the lunatics crazy people intelligent people here try and use it for,
because,
fuck logic I guess?

1. Shit? The people here push the boundaries, while understanding the limitations of the scripting language.
2. No HQ person here has ever tried to make a batch coded compiler, much less an OS!
3. Who made you an authority on logic?
4. Trolling is not nice.
I agree with jahwi. Some people here can be c̶o̶m̶p̶l̶e̶t̶e̶l̶y̶ ̶d̶e̶r̶a̶n̶g̶e̶d̶ a little crazy but they are not dumb. E̶x̶c̶e̶p̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶a̶-̶h̶o̶l̶e̶ n̶e̶w̶ ̶m̶e̶m̶b̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶w̶h̶o̶ ̶s̶p̶a̶m̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶u̶m̶s̶.̶

I did. I see now I had a long road ahead of me, while it is possible to make a compiler in batch, it is without a shadow of a doubt the hardest thing you could ever attempt in batch and would take far to long to complete.
