I have an old alienware x51, i7 3770, GTX 660, 8gb ram. more than enough for W10. I did a fac reset last night and tried downloading windows 10. First I tried upgrading but it just gets stuck on 99%. I am now doing it with the windows 10 setup launcher, with the purple background. it just keeps saying checking for updates.
Cant install windows 10. No matter what I do. |

How long did you let it sit at 99% or checking updates? Sometimes it can take a little while to complete... A lot depends on the Microsoft servers at that point (checking updates) When I run into this I usually either let it go overnight or if I'm going out for a while or when I leave for work, it will be done when you get back.
I waited a full day and I got tired of it and just made a bootable ISO. I think that;s what I did. It worked, and I'm on windows 10 now. I think the reason it didn't work before is Alienshit didn't let me upgrade. Now that I am on windows 10, their shitty bloatware isn't on here.
Anyone know how I can speed up the computer though? It's got an i7-3770, GTX 660, 8 gb ram . It's the Alienware X51 model and it's about 4 years old. I planned on just modding GTA and stuff on this, but it's really loud and annoying. Are there any upgrades I can install? I plan on looking for a new GPU sometime this summer. IDK if it's worth the investment since I was able to play GTA with this GPU before. Thanks.

Ah why didn't you mention the Alienware. The GWX route has proven problematic with upgrading on Alien Ware machines. still glad you managed eventually.

A gtx 1070 would be nice as well, but that's pointless for you to buy if you are satisfied with the graphics performance now and don't have a good 1440p or 4k monitor.
Update of sorts: I've Just had a friend drop a Dell laptop off that went barmy after it Upgraded to Windows 10 Aniversary Edition... His account was the only one on the machine (Full Admistrator rights etc.)It works fine until he checks what the System details are... and for some reason best known to Microsoft it keeps insisting the Machine is an ASUS??? He asked me if I could find out why?. Now in The uK it's(at the time of writing) Tuesday 16th August at 10-35. I had the laptop on and windows did an update and restarted the machine. Now the system Details are correct. tried to find out what the update was but it doesn't appear anywhere? I've ran Privacy fix as some of the settings seem to have been changed. I'm going to run a test tomorrow for him but it looks like the 64 bit version is now working fine? I'm just wondering what that update was and what did it do? (or was meant to do). I suspect that we might be seeing some issues with this Anniversary Version with Alienware machines too. I'll keep you informed as to What i manage to find out.

OP: Restart the install, and let it do its Checking for Updates. Like some users said it may take awhile. Bored? www.youtube.com/mrnapolean1 |
